  • If you've already finished the accreditation (as me and a few others here already have, and I'm sure more will have by July) would there be a chance to have time on the track to play do non-accreditation exercises and drills?

Or would you prefer to keep it more for people who want to progress through accreditation?

  • If you've already finished the accreditation (as me and a few others here already have, and I'm sure more will have by July) would there be a chance to have time on the track to play do non-accreditation exercises and drills?

Or would you prefer to keep it more for people who want to progress through accreditation?

If you can find 16 of the riders who have finished all accreditation, then I'll have a word with the Lee Valley coaches and see how they would like to structure the last hour for you.

  • Actually I'll make it easier... I'll ask who is accredited during the ticket sales, and if we have enough to have an hour for all of the pre-accredited we should be good.

  • B....ump, its a wicked buzz coming off of the top of the banking and zooming down the straight........

  • Just me know how and when to pay!

  • We have a proposal on the session, and unless we learn otherwise this is how it's going to be run.

    It will look like this:

First 2 hours: 32 riders in two groups doing skills exercises and acquiring stage 1 of accreditation.

3rd hour: 16 accredited riders doing advanced skills and racing. We could use two coaches, although we would need a main club representative to organise the riders.

For this to go ahead, we would need the accredited riders to all have their own bikes (they usually do), and stay on the main concourse/away from track centre during the 1st two hours. At the end of the first 2hrs we would need the first 32 riders to vacate the track centre and go up to the stands.

So, on the premise that a fair few of you have already completed various parts of your accreditation and are able to complete in time... then the last hour will be reserved for advanced skills and racing under the supervision of 2 coaches.

Ticket prices will reflect this, it will be cheaper overall (1 less coach) and for the advanced riders you'll be able to subtract the bike hire cost.

What are the bike specs for bringing your own bikes?

    They are here:

  • What does 'accredited' Mean? I have competed the initial hour, ie stage one of the four. does that leave me with the option of stage one again, and getting the other 3 stages done before the lfgsscc day...

  • What does 'accredited' Mean? I have competed the initial hour, ie stage one of the four. does that leave me with the option of stage one again, and getting the other 3 stages done before the lfgsscc day...

    Pretty much that.

The accreditation process is outlined over here:
    http://www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/london2012/velo-park/track/track-accreditation/

  • I have updated the costs spreadsheet to make it clear that there are two ticket prices:

9am-11am Taster Session and Stage 1 Accreditation = £26 including bike hire.

11am-12pm Advanced Skills and Racing = £16 and does NOT include bike hire, and you must have completed your accreditation before the session.

There's only one last thing for me to check, which is insurance. But right now I think the prices look good.

  • ah, ok. Might skip this first one then! When I did the intro session (stage 1) shoes were extra, The hire bike pedals take Look Keo's I think or you can go with cages.

  • Soft trainers work well for cages, so anyone without Look Keo cleats can wear soft trainers.

  • Confirmed that shoe hire is an extra £6 if you're not running Look Keo cleats (and no, you may not install your own pedals onto hire bikes).

In addition shoe hire is £6.00 per person (they are not mandatory, you are able to simply use toe clips & strap on)

Not sure what the strap on has to do with track cycling, but toe clips are available.

  • 9am-11am Taster Session and Stage 1 Accreditation = £26 including bike hire.

11am-12pm Advanced Skills and Racing = £16 and does NOT include bike hire, and you must have completed your accreditation before the session

What about people who haven't done accreditation but do have a suitable track bike?

  • What about people who haven't done accreditation but do have a suitable track bike?

If your bike fully meets the criteria above, then you can pay £16 and bring the bike.

But... it's not like there's any benefit to using your own bike during the first stage of accreditation, and if the majority of people did arrive with their own bikes it's going to take the coaches a couple of minutes to check each bike is fine for the track and we'll be burning into track time.

It's fine, but I'll manage the numbers and will only allow a few of those in the taster session to do this. The numbers continue to work fine, just subtract a tenner if you are bringing a track spec bike (that's Lee Valley Track spec... as above).

  • Note the gear inch requirement too!

  • That sounds perfect, I am super excite for this! I know there are currently four of us who have passed plus roboto is doing his final stage 4 next week. I'll put a post on the LVV thread to encourage people who are half-way through to get fully accredited before July 19 so we definitely make up the numbers.

  • Scoot, did you do another 3 before your 4 or were you like fuck it!

  • I just geared down from ridiculous 91gi to a more manageable 86gi and went straight to stage 4, stacking was a piece of piss! Made it back to the group in a couple of metres rather than 3/4 of the track.

A slightly lower gear than you'd normally ride at HH is definitely advised.

  • Can't believe I'd not seen this yet

  • Tickets are on sale via the LFGSS CC shop: http://shop.lfgss.cc/

Quietly announced on this thread to everyone who is watching, but will be more broadly announced and promoted next week.

You have just under a week to buy a ticket before we send an email and sell them all.

    There are two prices offered:

9-11am = £27 for unaccredited riders, includes bike hire (plus helmet but not shoes) and you will leave with stage 1 accreditation achieved

11am-noon = £16 for fully accredited riders, you must bring your own bike, advanced skills and practise races under guidance of 2 coaches

If you are unaccredited and you have a bike that conforms to the Lee Valley spec, let us know and we will refund £10. But if you screw it up, and claim to have a bike that the coaches reject on the day... you won't be riding and we will not be refunding the money (we're operating near cost and you would have denied us the ability to put someone on the track in your place). Only bring your own bike if you are beyond doubt that it meets the Lee Valley track bike spec as above.

If you are accredited and you require bike hire, let us know and we will grumble about this and then let you pay £10 extra. Be sure to have entered your height, etc on the purchase screen.

  • Awesome work VB!
    Booked for me plus bobthesuperstar.

  • edit oops now I read the final two paragraphs.

  • Will donate the hire refund to lfgss. S'been ages since I rocked a gold star here.

Scared about riding a proper track! Excited though.

Scoot's advice to gear down a bit if you ride HH normally doesn't work for puffing billy here, as I normally ride there on the same gear Lea Valley's minimum inches anyway.

  • Booked. Please don't laugh at me when I fall off.

One question: I'm right on the cusp of bike sizes (176cm), do you reckon it'll be possible to swap for a smaller/bigger bike on the day?
