^ not shortened, but rerouted indeed. I turned back and rode opposite direction for a bit somewhere on the tarmac on the way to Asciano, thinking I must have missed a turn as I didn't recognise that stretch from the previous 3 editions I rode. Luckily ran into some guys that were sure it was the right way.
@billundben cheers, and chapeau to you for doing the percorso lungo as well, it's as tough as it is beautiful.

I'm back after L'Eroica and prolonged vacation including trip along the north coast.
Best time ever, done 135km being super hangover and on 13-18t freewheel all I had to to was to walk a lot.
But still - totally worth it. -

Sorry, I got it wrong - we went north along the west coast.
We've been to Marina del Massa but all the campings were closed after season and found only one (Iron Gate camping). Then we went through La Spezia to Genova. Last day was quick trip through Milano to some camping near Garda.
Genova and Milano were really messy and not a pleasure to be in my opinion. Piza is quite overrated, I liked Siena and Gaiole the most.
Bear in mind that Italians don't speak almost any english, most campings are closed in October and eve if they're open you can not be accomodated after 8/9 pm.
Heh,
I thought I had been the only one stupid enough to forget their wine bottle in the backpack. Fortunately I will be enjoying mine tomorrow. I was pretty lucky the airport official had a soft spot for cycling.
Anyways was the 205k course shortened this year? At some point there was a rerouting.
