What gear are people planning to use for this?
I suspect my 72'' might be a bit high.

I hit it with 42x16 last year, which I found tough, I'll take 42x17 this year which is around 65"

52/42/27:3x7:14-34

+1 on trailer bike using 34x18t

What are your views on 38x 13.....?

You should totally get Mrs Nicazakstan involved in this - it's SUCH a good atmosphere and a perfect first ride for "ooh! I didn't think I could ride that far in one day" type revelation.

Riding in a group on the road will do wonders for her confidence and lots of pub/ice cream type stops and if she does decide it's too much, loads of places you can bail and head for the pub.

You know it makes sense ; )
