Khan has just flatly refuted the cabbie allegation that CSH caused congestion. He tore the argument apart with facts and graphs, apparently.

err, see previous page!
Nine elms has just been released, and its another hodge podge of mixed messages.
https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/nine-elms-lane/consult_view/Khan is now officially a disaster for segregated cycling in London.

Loading bays in a cycle lane, great plan.

Camberwell consultation which seems like a bad joke: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/camberwell-green/

The key indicator of their priorities is the blanket phrase "Safer for peds and cyclists" with little or no detail.
"Cycle friendly gullies where possible..." , That's not a good phrase.
Clearly Khan and Norman and fully behind the "bus is king" policy.

Mandatory cycle lane on Camberwell Church Street westbound approach to operate at all times
Mandatory? What?
-
• #136
I assume it's mandatory as in cars aren't allowed in it, solid white line, not that cyclists have to be in it.
It looks like it's leading cyclists up the left hand side of left turning traffic though which is a bag of shit.
-
• #137
Mandatory for drivers not cyclists. As opposed to advisory, ie solid line: mandatory, broken line:advisory.

This is a very interesting tale about planning cycling infrastructure
https://amp.theguardian.com/cities/2017/sep/19/britains-1960s-cycling-revolution-flopped-stevenage -
• #141
The reality is that people think selfishly. Until cycling becomes a quicker/better way to commute people will not swap to the bike. Basically you need peak time grid lock.
Stevenage being a new town has relatively free flowing spacious road compared to existing town and cities.
Even the Dutch made the centre of Amsterdam virtually unnavigable by car through a series of no entries and one way roads as well as very limited parking. Suddenly cycling make sense.
The fact that I can commute faster then the tube is a major factor in my cycling regularly.
7/7 bombing also made the tube less attractive, if it's sardine packed carriages weren't enough of a deterant, together with cycle work scheme at the same time meant it made sense for the lot of people.
It's not all about infrastructure, it helps once the momentum has built up as people transfer to bikes. -

Cs9 looks like it's on the way.
Gaping hole in the network will exist as Kensington disapproves and hates cyclist.
Glad the a40 cycle path was axed that would have been awful to cycle by. -

Great comments on there...

So, Oxford Street 'pedestrianisation'--will it ever happen?
My money's on 'no'.

Given the current Mayor's focus on busses I can't see it.
-

He's solidly behind it, but everybody who's tried in the past was eventually defeated by the established transport arrangements. I've been told there were attempts in the 90s and Livingstone also pursued it, with several types of possible solutions, including an end-to-end tram. As far as I know, nobody has yet found a way to provide an adequate interchange at either end to transfer passengers from one mode to another (be that bus to tram or bus to underground and vice versa, and then how to turn buses around) as the passenger volumes in the peak hour are just too great. They're now pinning their hopes on Crossrail, but I'm pretty sure that won't work, either--it'll only increase the overall numbers hugely.
It's been a very important street for much too long for change to be easy. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I can't see it happening based on the proposals that I've seen so far.

Wasn't sure where to place this but Lambeth is consulting on its proposed Healthy Routes (developed with TfL) and is inviting comment. A healthy route would be a road adapted for the benefit of walking and/or cycling, 'for example, separate space for cycling and better pavements and crossings may be needed on a busy road, while traffic may need to be reduced on streets around schools.'
This walk way used to go through building and towards the new jubilee gardens. It became a haven for anti social behaviour but the area is much better now so we should have that problem now.
