That 'nago's a mess.

That work reasonably well with gumwall.

Gunwalls get dirty and I reckon black would be better on this anyway.
Probikekit have some good deals on Michelin PRO4's and GP4000's (I think).

does this mean the centaur 111 bb and double record crankset will throw out the chainline?
yes. those record cranks (and chorus of the era) only work with their own 102mm bbs.. (although there are other manufacturers that make 102bbs if i'm not mistaken)
-
• #35
yep - the 111 centaur bb works well with 8 spd campag chorus/record double cranks, but the next gen after 1994 (?) don't..

tifosi £25. anyone any experience of?
£60 or £90 for chorus or record is super steep.yes. those record cranks (and chorus of the era) only work with their own 102mm bbs.. (although there are other manufacturers that make 102bbs if i'm not mistaken)

Progress over Christmas has been frustrating.
I read a few things online (including Sheldon) that said a 25.8 stem clamp could accommodate 26.0 bar diameter. Well turns out that it is a different story with carbon bars. Urgh.Is getting the stem (aluminium clamp) reamed an option? The clamp face is only 1.5mm at its thinnest point... 0.1mm off the face, 0.1mm off the body... Yes? Please!

Just get a reverse shim.

So the stem/ bar problem was resolved...by purchasing a new stem.
When I unboxed it I wasn't too pleased with the shape. However mounted I think it looks sick and works well with the fork's tubing.
Thoughts?
Spending as a solution isnt ideal but it worked with little hassle. Unfortunately Ive now got a massive ballache thanks to a oval seat tube 25.0 side to side but 27.0 front to back.
If it is just at the top of the tube, then I dont see why a shim won't be an option. If its all the way down am I fucked?

I think it's only the lug which comes into contact with the post, and a bit if shim slid down the front should sort it nicely. Wonder if it was caused by that daft clamp coming loose.
If you need to recoup your investment for that stem give me a shout :)

How sure? Dont want to get my hopes up too high!
Doubt it, the post was always super loose, no sign or wear on ST anywhere.
Yeah...the stem is dead, took it to a metal worker in Hackney...WAC...both of us.

longest. build. ever. so long that i forgot that i had started this thread.
the frustration caused by the oval seat tube and having cyclesurgery kings cross completely fuck up my crown race meant i stopped taking photos as the build went.
on the plus(?!?) side, the extra time allowed for more money to be spent on nicer parts.

That looks superb!
-
• #46
What did you do about the seat tube? Looks fantastic.
-
• #47
thanks!
i'm super happy for a first road build.the seat tube needed a .2mm shim... modified. was a ballache. i got through three of them. there is a slight gap at the top, but it's tight as it should be at the clamp.
had zero slippage so far. -
