What's going on up front? Fairing mount?

Definitely interesting, not sure what I was expecting....

This, but I do genuinely love it. And I can't really say why.

I was expecting kind of a bike with disc wheels, drop bars, ultra aero geometry and all that shit.

Is it any harder to push a big gearing that's then transferring to another connected big gearing? My convoluted point being, how does the above compare to the somewhat different Donhou straight 104x13 track bike?
-
• #33
A gear is a gear as far as I'm aware.

• #34
^^less wear innit :p

I'd guess at it being the hitch for the car that's going to be doing all the accelarating.
There's 2 levers and only one break so possibly one lever releases the bike from the tow vehicle?

Not sure what gi that gives, but would be the answer to the issue of the max gear you can achieve before fucking with bb height and affecting stability...

We were advised that stabilty is key issue on these things so much so talking to Dave Legrys (who's done 110mph) he was going to advise against Guy riding a bike with road wheels. We actually end up running 1.95" tyres with slight tread, Aero postion not an issue behind a fairing, Comfort/trust is, I built this for speeds of up to 130mph I thought giving Guy a stable bike was paramount.

Spot on 2 chainsets is only way to go, ourselves and Hope set gearing for all speeds from 60 to 130 mph plus. I wanted a BB as low as possible. -

This is RADICAL.

• #39
Does it skid?
-
• #40
this excites me a great deal, very much looking forward to seeing it on TV!

Crazy and amazing.
What bars are those?

joke ^

Ahhh, cool

How does the record work?
Does Guy have to accelerate after un-hitching or maintain a steady speed for x distance?

We towed him to around 60 percent off speed I guess, until he could turn the gear, on one test run we towed him to 60 he unhitched too early he got out of the saddle and accelerated, I was in car next to him he left us for dead and caught the truck!
I went nuts for getting out of the saddle, he said there was no way he was getting dropped by the truck! Madest thing I've ever seen live. -

Does it barspin? Does Guy barspin?
-
• #47
Oh and when can I have a go?

Wouldn't a longer wheelbase / longer trail give you more stability? What impact would the width or the tread of your tyres have?
-
• #49
it already have a longer wheelbase, relative to traditional stayer/speed record bikes.
getting the overall handling including wheel and tyre size to be as close to a TT motorbike is propably a good idea.
I never imagined guy martin could pedal that well. did it take a lot of training?

I don't know how much riding he does but he does some. There's a video of him MTBing with Steve Peat somewhere..
Blimey, that bike looks awesome!
I'd be scared of losing an arm in the drivechain.
