Isnt that airport tax. As in fees paid to the airport, and not really a tax at all.

....Or was this a overweight fee.

When Heathrow is 'quiet'? LOLage
At night they have a ristricted flight schedule due to noise levels. I think there may even be a period when only small/private jets are allowed to take off.

Maybe. But do they have anything to do with fuel? Do governments have any say in what they are? Looks like, maybe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landing_fee

I think most airports have restrictions at night don't they?
But then it's at night.. Guy goes shopping for hi viz leathers
And the runways aren't closed they just have reduced use.

That's true, I wouldn't want to do it at night. I'm sure he'd just put some carrots in his tea and give it a go.

Aviation fuel is untaxed, as of 1947. I blame Labour.

Just here? Looks like other Euro countries might charge: http://advisor.cbvatamerica.com/
Why aren't return flights more expensive then I wonder?

Hold the bells, never mind airport runways and sandy beaches... shouldn't this sort of thing be done on salt flats in Utah??

Did you consider asking Heathrow if you could use one of their runways at night when it's quiet? Over 4km of tarmac, much longer than Bruntingthorpe (or any other runway in the UK).
I think this is a good reason to finally build that 3rd runway at Heathrow!
-

Apparently, Heathrow does not have over 4km of runway > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_longest_runways
Edwards AFB on the other hand

Very little happens at Heathrow after 11PM due to noise restrictions, and one runway is usually closed for maintenance/supersonic fixeh riding/whatevs. Gatwick is a different story, it can be busy well into the wee hours of the morning.

The northern runway at Heathrow is 3992m long, so it's not far off. It's still the longest runway in the UK, and a lot longer than Bruntingthorpe's (3000m).

So what did the GI work out at then?
This got a bit lost in the Volvo/runway hoo-ha, but I would love to know please. -

16 according to this, which is more than 2 per hour.

You'd need some very powerful friends to get a runway at Heathrow shutdown long enough to setup and attempt a bicycle record.
-
• #193
2 per hour is nothing, and only requires one runway, which is all that is generally used overnight at Heathrow. So you wouldn't need to 'shut one down', and as for powerful friends, Heathrow's press officer would be able to get an answer for anyone who asked. It would probably be 'no', but if you don't ask you don't get.

Well, you've got your mission. Let me know how you get on..

I don't have the necessary TV programme to offer positive publicity for them in return. Also, no truck or 100mph fixie. Otherwise I'd be all over that shit, I promise.

Or go to Duxford.

Go Duxford yourself!

Speed record for human flight? Will he beat the current record of 27mph?

Not with those eggbeaters ;)
What do they tax now? My Majorca tickets were 50% tax.
I'd much rather see private cars taxed out of the stratosphere than planes.
