...but will the streets of Chelsea and Wilmslow be awash with them in 3 years' time?
I was wondering what the geo 'rules' are for Fat Bike components - I have an MTB frame with an interesting rear end ('92 Alpinestars Cro Mega LX) and it looks like I could jam a pretty effing large tye back there. Standard canti bosses would likely limit me to standard 26" MTB rims though, and there are no disc tabs.
But... could I put a fat-bike-esque tyre on it, and then run a proper fatbike fork/wheel/tyre up front?Wasn't there a Surly that a lot of people were running like this? Maybe the disc ready 1x1 with a fat fork/wheel/tyre?
My own 1x1 is a little fat, trials rims and 2.2 Conti RaceKings = that "nothing's stopping me" feeling that must be 10x stronger with a real fat bike.

Where do you Uk based people ride these things?? (I know SF is in Norway??)
It's my commuter. It makes me smile every morning on the way to work.
It makes everyone else smile. It's the perfect bike for commuting, as its quick and nimble, but also makes you not hate going to work.
Hopefully this weekend I will take it to play somewhere. -

That rocks, especially with the HS33s!

mine has been to gisburn, swinley, dalby, wales, the seaside, wimbledon common.
it has become my fun trail bike, the other half also has a fatbike so it seems appropriate we ride on similar machines

eyebrows, commuting on roads in London?
I'd really love one. They do look amazing. I just don't think I would use it (properly)enough to justify it. Welsh train centres. Maybe a trip to the Seven Stain in Shhhhgotlund, thats it. I completely get the going slow, letting it all hang out, massive traction thing. Someone posted a picture in porn a while ago of that fatty upright in a rocky stream. That picture is burnt in my brain.

This is why I always run the biggest tyres I can on my bike. The bike in general is fairly lightweight - Ti frame, singlespeed, soon to be tubeless... Currently on 2.35" High rollers but by the look of it I'll be able to fit some 3" tyres in there. Ok, it's not technically a fatbike as such but where do you draw the line? Bigger tyres are better on natural trails.

What rims are those? I fancy some wide rims for my own MTB but can't find any >25mm internal diameter with a braking surface. Would ideally run 26-29.

Have you considered Halo Tornado? Not easy to find as loose rims, but the spec seems to be exactly what you're asking for.

Seems a good spot, thanks! Hadn't thought about jump bike rims.

Looks like they've replaced it with the T2. Much bargain

It's a wheelset from Onza, bought through their ebay shop.
Think the rims are branded Onza and the hubs Tensile.
Total bargain by the way, think they were about £80 for the set, I thought they'd be machine built but when I emailed seller to ask if they'd been dispatched i was told the mechanic was just finishing building them!
Edit: £85 inc postage. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251340761312

Do they do any slicks for fatties?

Surly Black Floyd?

Does tyre choice play a big part in traction levels with fat bikes?
I ask because I noticed I get pretty good traction on my 1x1 despite not very heavily threaded tyres and forgetting to drop tyre pressures from commuting PSIs when I last took it off-road.

My new place of work will have bike to work scheme- the On-One Fatbike is £999.

The idea of the king weight weenie of lfgss on a fatbike makes me chuckle.

It'll be the lightest fatbike evah!

There is a thread for that on mtbr.

My Fatbike is surprisingly light. The only overweight component is my shite rims, and I drilled the feck out of them.
If I had scales I'd weigh it.

I cannot describe how excellent an idea buying a fatbike is Dammit.
I'm grateful to both DJ and SF for pushing me to buy it.Its so light, today in the wind, I was being pushed all over the shop.
