  • Right.

I slung on some old wheels, a FoffaAngle saddle and the forks just to get an idea of how it might look built.

I think it might be good.

  • looks good! Are both wheels 700c in that picture?

    Ps. nice 914!

  • Yip, it's built for 700Cs for constant neitherupnordownhill, perspective is weird.

    Green fourteen is green.

  • It's starting to look like a biek :

  • Holy shit, it is a bike.

  • Looking good, this will look great! On first impression it looks like a steeper stem might suit it better?

  • Looking good, Hefty!

  • I think the stem has been chosen to put the handlebars in the correct position rather than on grounds of aesthetics. #functionoverform. However, there is of course no excuse for the overly long valve stem on the rear inner tube.

  • If getting the bars in the right place is the goal here, he's started with an awkward pair....

  • Nice gum wall veloflex tires.

  • Yeah. The stem puts the bars in the Tester Approved (TM) position, put I agree, it needs to be more like -17 than the -9 it is for aesthetics. :( I think I'll order another stem and see if I can live with a bit more drop. I can't get the position right with flat bullhorns.

The long valve is because Conti Supersonic tubes are stupidly thin and Veloflex Masters are a very tight fit and those two facts mean I tore the tube trying to fit the tyre. I only had a 60mm valve tube in stock. I've ordered a 42mm valved replacement. Well, 5 actually in case I eff it up again.

Inneresinly (or not) with normal width rims 23mm tyres touch the seat tube. With the 23mm wide Archetypes there's a good 3mm clearance. Quite a difference.

  • It lives (and looks stunning)!

Allen key front spindle for that track look perhaps?

Work on tyre-fitting thumb strength as part of your training regime!

I've bought exactly that skewer, with black nuts to blend into the fork.

But I can't remember where I've put it.

  • Just a personal thing but I think straight blade forks would look way rad.

  • Such as the 3T Funda Team?

  • Hi Hefty

I think you rode a black Rory O'Brien Vitus 979 on the London to Cambridge a few months ago. We had a quick chat as I've got one as well.

I'm going to get a Ti road frame built by Justin Burls this season.

Your bike looks great so far so - looking forward to seeing the rest of the build

Yeah. I put some straight tarck forks on and it does look better, but I want this to be comfy to ride and have no toe overlap, so the EC90s are the compromise.

Hi Glenn, yep - that's me.

I can't fault Justin's service and the build quality is great.

I've no idea how it rides yet, but having done 3 buzzy hours on a carbon bike yesterday and an hour on my squooshy 12kg steel commuter today I'm hoping it rides like the steel bike and goes like the carbon one. If it does I'm going to love it.

  • Ah that's fair enough and makes a lot of sense, as others have said though... comfy.... bro pro? ;-)

  • I don't like the standard BURLS decals, so got the frame plain with just a head badge.

I had various fancy ideas, but in the end kept it simple, with a small nod to the frame's country of origin :

  • I specced a rear brake bridge just in case I ever want to run single speed.

It looked a bit unfinished so I stuck a round thing with a hand on it over the hole.

  • Single decal; understated and classy.

  • Cranks / brake / seat post are Dura Ace 74xx :

The saddle is a Flite with Ti rails that I stripped and covered in some cork coloured vinyl. Weighs in at 179g, so not total weight weenie, but light enough.

Cork bar tape that ought to match is on the way.

I have a Wipppppermannnn chain in the cupboard and shiny 16T and 19T 3/32 Andel cogs are on the way. 85GI for trying to go fast, 72GI for skidz and social rides.

Then all I want is a smaller seatpost clamp and to find the allen key front skewer and I think it's there.

    To contrast with the rider.

  • Update plz.
