Losing your mojo

  • Mostly externalising a lot of shit I've been mulling over for the last month or two. Therapeutic.

  • I've not been on the road bike since August.

I commute by bike maybe twice a week.

I run maybe once a week.

I should probably buy another bike.

  • Totally.

  • This

I put down my Mojo disintegration to simply not having sufficient bikes. There can be no other reason.

  • Sometimes the bike you've always had turns out to be the right bike all along ;)

  • But you only learn that after the thrill of buying and building a new bike, riding it for a while until a mechanical forces you back to your old bike.

Vicious cycle but we love it and it fuels the classifieds

Not had a chance to read this yet but seems relevant to the current mojo-talk

  • I should probably buy another bike.

Definitely. This is the LFGSS way.

Ideally purpose build a bike for a specific discipline that you have never done, have no experience of and may actually hate.

And make sure you spend at least a grand on it ;)

  • I've had a great solid Winters training.

    Now Im fecked.

Just signed up for Premium TrainingPeaks for the start of the season, and it seems to be telling me I've peaked and died.

Have to say the sharp and constant fall of the TSB line describes my feelings exactly.

I probably need to lighten my bike.

  • Take a week or two off, then build back up slowly. Still loads of time before summer actually happens.

  • It's already happened! Haven't you seen the forecast? It's over now. Nice while it lasted, plenty of time to get it together for next year.

  • Just to echo what Tom said upthread. Stop worrying about what other people are doing and just enjoy riding. If you're training for racing or for a goal, then yeah, sure give yourself a hard time, but remember to factor in recovery weeks etc. Otherwise just build up slowly - overdoing it will do more harm than good.

Take a step backwards. Do some tempo and slower rides. Do a sweetspot ride on the mtb for a laugh. Ride to the pub with some mates.

Do that for a couple of weeks is like being on pause, then you can pick up where you left off. Unless you're going to maximum BC points (or the Norwegian equivalent) it's a bit early to be truly fast, and even then there's something to be said for racing into August when a lot of people have lost interest or burnt-out.

  • I have patchy mojo. Can I have some advice please Tom.

  • Stop drinking so much beer and come to the track :)

  • Fuck the track. Easy on the beer, don't stop. You want long steady climbs, a heartrate held where you think you might just explode but never quite do, a flashing light to follow and 110rpm on a 2% downhill knowing you can keep it spinning until you get home. Well, the bottom of Anerley is good enough.Something like that. That'll give you enough smiles and bike-comfort to get back into pissing about in a velodrome. Going in at the bottom's no good at the track because you're spat out before the fun starts.

  • 6pt, you're on fire with the advice. Do you offer advice on other sports - or areas of life - or is it just cycling?

  • i wouldn't classify any of what I post as advice, and in jaygee's case it was more of a plea for him to come riding with me again.

    Christ on a bike!

  • groan

hands off - who am I going to ride with if you do that?

  • your track buddies, obvs.

  • I do enjoy turning right as well as left you know?

  • Ride clockwise, then.
