  • Pick one.

  • 'Cycling trousers'?

    No.

Hang on a minute, I meant full leg cycling gear, as in non-shorts, and non-tights. I wear those jeans all the time at the weekend when I'm not commuting (when I wear Swrve or Rapha shorts) or going for a long ride, great for cycling to supermarket/pub/mate's house/crack dealer

  • Ialso got the Union 34 Schoeller trousers from Rutland Cyling for 20squid, 80%off! In their recent sale, really quite impressed.

Got two pairs, absolute bargain. However, sent them straight back. Really low rise so sat below the waist. Soon as bent over they slipped down. That is probably the reason they are on sale.

  • If you have the disposable income to do that, why are you even looking at the pricetag on cycling gear?

Cycling clothing for the lower body is made out of lycra.

Did you not get the memo, or is it still in one of your cargo pockets?

  • You get the bib shorts out for the supermarket? Do you go clacking about on road shoes and cleats too?

It must have you I saw in John Lewis

  • Yes.

    { tips rapha cap }

  • Well it was certainly epic suffering negotiating all those kitchenware displays in those shoes

Yeah only really for short bursts to the pub or into town, where you've got to be off the bike for a while, not really performance cycling gear but there's definitely a time and a place for them. if I cycle to work I just shower and change so Lycra is perfect

  • If you have the disposable income to do that, why are you even looking at the pricetag on cycling gear?

Because getting a bargain feels righteous, kind of like saving money even though you're spending it, which 'gives' u even more disposable to spend on moar Rapha.

I cycle down each isle and store groceries like bidons down a domestique's jersey.

I actually have time mtb pedals on my daily bike.

  • Cocaine or cycling.

    Pmsl

  • Low rise is my pet hate. One of the reasons I rate the Rapha shorts over the Swrve ones is the Rapha ones are in the same place at the end of a ride as they were at the start, while the Swrve ones require frequent adjusting

Low rise is where my trousers always are when I'm off my bike, anything high and I feel like Simon Cowell, so if I'm riding then it's Lycra and if I'm just going to the pub and plan to take off my shoes at the other end then it's low rise, can't really see the point in serious riding in high waisted shorts, just wear Lycra?!

    You rule breaker you

You can have a higher rise and not look like Cowell. Swrve aren't low rise, but the cut is much skinnier ( with the skinny versions anyway) so do slip in my experience. I prefer them off the bike. Only have one pair of bib shorts, Nalini 3/4, which actually have the same chamois as Rapha's, but I paid £50 for (massively reduced offa Planet X). I save them for weekend rides not my half hour commute. For that I want a decent pair of shorts.

That said I will be adding some bib winter tights very shortly, depending on what bargain I can find on the interweb.

  • And does Planet X's merino range in general deserve a mention here?

Their merino jersey is (was) epically bad.

  • Ok forget I said anything. The baselayer is good though

  • Planet X sport wool socks are awesome, castelli nanoflex bib shorts and tights are my go to Lycra for wet and cold stuff, wet weather performance is second to none, I don't even bother with Rapha tights because the Castelli ones are so good.

  • Castelli is now the official go-to brand of the roadie douchebag though.

  • Really? Expound. Have u tried the nanoflex material? Worth every penny. Even if it does apparently say douchebag all over it!?!

  • I'm sure it's really good. But that wasn't my point.

  • The Gabba jersey/jacket is the flavour du jour since even Sky riders have been spotted wearing it when the weather gets apocalyptic. See multiple discussions in the Rapha thread in the bike and bits forum.

Rapha got out Rapha'd. £210 for a bit if kit that works much better than any of theirs. Castelli made a a killing out of pro-riders wearing Gabbas with blacked out logos

Yeah sorry about that. I'm still banned from the big Waitrose for it.
