And does Planet X's merino range in general deserve a mention here? Don't have any myself apart from the base layer but it looks decent.
I have their socks and love them.

^ 3 for £10, I have loads - can't really wear normal socks now!

I think by nice you mean overpriced.
Seriously, even including 'extras' I'd have trouble spending £140 on a weekend night out, let alone weekday.
Try eating something nice before drinking something nice.

DID SOMEONE SAY MERINO SOCKS?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261313899429
£4 for 6 pairs. I've got drawers full of these. The thicker dark grey/blue ones he has are great for colder days, but I wear the normal weight ones all year round. Bargain.

Nice but incredibly pricey?

morvelo, some of their gear is made at the same place and with the same materials as rapha. only less $$

I really like the look of cafe du cyclistes but not sure i have the je ne sais quoi to pull it off, plus they're in the Rapha price range anyways. Again I'll ask if anyone has tried the Chapeau stuff: cheaper and decent looking

Looks nice. But not being able to try it on, and the facebook marketing put me off.

I initially sought out stuff that both looked and performed well as alternatives to Rapha, like Torm and Castelli.
Although I don't have much rapha, I do find that it feels, performs and looks a hell of a lot better to wear than the majority of the other stuff to be honest. I think for basics like commuting or shorter rides, going with one of the alternatives makes sense, but for key items like jackets or bibs, spending the money is worth it.
Spending an extra 30-40% for something you really like and will last ages is worth it in my opinion.

I've got a Cafe du Cycliste Henriette jersey and it's well made, a great fit and cut with lovely details but it's made from horrible material that isn't particularly nice to wear.
It's not a favourite.

Tells me enough. It's all about the material, it's what what makes Torm jerseys so awesome, despite the small pockets
Nothing delivers so much for the cash as Torm. Honest injun

I've banged on about them before, but for casual/city riding stuff Muxu are great - I definitely prefer their jeans to my Swrve ones and the town jacket is ace.
