  • Hi all

posted some pics over in 'current projects' of my colnago I have just finished putting together, but I could do with some help in identification.

Possibly its a Master of some sort - all I know is it originally was used by a belgian team (has race number peg under top tube). It wears 'art-decor' style paint which has been done to a high standard, but it only has plain chrome to rear drop-outs not the more common painted style.

BB has colnago name plate with rectangular slot underneath, top of seat stays have cloverleaf stamping - rear brake cable is routed through top tube with both entry/exit point on top of tube. seat-tube, downtube, and toptube all are 'Gilco' style with 4 crimps.

I'm thinking its date would be somewhere early 90's ?

any help appreciated - Thanks. T.b.

  • Thanks, but why does it have a clover on the seat cluster instead of a Colnago pantograph? It was taken from the warehouse of polish cycling federation, so that may be a clue?
Also - any idea how much is it worth? It's too big for me, so I don't need it sitting in my room.

    Anyone?
    Dropouts are Colnago.

  • Anyone?
    Dropouts are Colnago.

I think it might be a Spiral Conic / Conic SLX actually.

Can you guys help me identify this Colango? It has Gilco tubing and a clover where the seatstay meets the seat tube lug which would make it a Master Superissimo? Under that awful pink powder coat there's a chrome fork.

Here's the rest of the pics - http://flic.kr/s/aHsjUaADKU

here's a spiral, but with no tt or st crimps

and one i sold a while ago
I have never heard of or seen a master superisimo
the fork crown detailing is similar to that on the spiral and master,
but the lug detailing here is inconsistent with the master
if the tt has 6 crimps, like my '88 esa, and given the internal cable guide on the tt, and the clover cut out on the seat tube say, i'll hazard a guess and say it could be a late example of an esa mexico circa early '90's

  • ^ I didn't clock that the seat tube was crimped as well.

  • Yep, all 3 main tubes have 6 crimps. So, Esa Mexico it is?
How much is it worth in the condition pictured above?

  • well, not much compared to ebay.com examples tbh, chrome has gone on forks, no chrome on head tube lug, original paints was usually two tone fade ending in spiral type decor, so very hard/expensive to replicate properly
if a potential buyer particularly wants an esa, it could command a higher price

  • I might restore the chromes while stripping the paint with some chemicals. But then again I don't know if the chemicals won't mess them up.

  • got my hands on a brand new tecnos, sunshine yellow

  • And I accidentally won this:

  • good shot! seems a decent price!
    well done !
    if it's a bad accident, I'll give it a good home :-)

  • congratilations, not bad for an accident.

  • Sounds like a bad accident because it's too small, 53cm. Really an impulse buy, blinded by the ghibli wheelset

  • oof shame, I only keep what I can ride

  • 53cm c-c tt? What about the seat tube c-t? :)

That's st ctc, 53cm. TT is around 54-55.

Will defo sell it. I need at least 56cm st ctc. PM me if serious, can be arranged. Otherwise I'll just ask seller to cancel the transaction.

  • so size is just about perfect for you. top tube is about the size you need and leaning in the elbow pads a little shorter is just fine.

i´d give it a try, i assume with 55 tt it might be perfect fit for you

  • Can I run 3 size down on a TT? I'm standing at 6'0" or 6'1" on a good day

  • if your normal frame size is 56 st ctc (as you said), the top tube on them frames might be around 55-56 ctc.
i see tt lengh as more important than st lengh.
