  • Without introducing the dirty topic of £ into the thread something makes me think you didn't pay anything like this for yours

  • funny story really
winning bid was 250 pounds, I arrainged collection date,Monday, bought tickets
and later sent a 2nd confirmation, upon which, vendor said he could not do had to be today, tickets were 60 quid return, 20 quid to change date, so now 80
I said to vendor on collection 230 he said why, I said because you changed date, he refused
Saddle (colnago selle) has a tear when I'd asked via ebay if it had, and tt underside has bad paint damage
I actually called him a cunt, and walked back into the station, then I re negged , went back and gave him the 250
    Stoke-on-fucking-Trent

  • no real damage apart from paint, one tt cable guide is torn, so if reprayed, could braze a new one on, chrome looks ok, so will mask up if respray
if a respray, may go for one colour blue like the oval cx roadie

this one's been on the market a while

  • £250 eh. Worth every penny if only to call someone a cunt to their face.

  • the clown was quite stunned when i came back
was in the car reversing out of his spot
even after payment he still spouted shit, insisting it was from 1973 and an aero tt bike
i said no, oval cx gentleman ,1983, and told him about the bin price of the example you posted, he started changing colour then
it kinda felt as good as calling him a cunt tbh

  • "this one's been on the market a while"

Crazy price though, even with that groupset it's 10x the sum of the parts.

  • Yeah that had to have hurt a little. He'll be spitting nails for a good while with a bit of luck.

On another note I sold a pair of GP4's/Record wheels to a guy on eBay today. We got chatting, he's quite into earlier stuff from the fifties but has a couple of Colnagos. He's got a NOS Molteni Super early 70's. It's wrapped in cotton wool and doesn't see much light of day but he's going to dig it out and send me some pictures. I'll post them up.

  • sounds stunning!

  • It's one for completists really.

    It's certainly not pretty!

  • i saw this one at a bike jumble , owned by a Dutch trader mentioned here before, it works better for me with a more modern/carbon gruppo

  • broke down the oval gent today, no dents or digs, just paint damage, lot of nice details, ht is kinda ovalised as well which is nice

Did the same today with a not so glamorous Super. Had a modern dura 7900 group on it but put it back a bit more period correct with 7402. Still a few bits to do (excuse the saddle) but nearly ready to ride. The group came off my Elegant which had shitty paintwork. That's going to the paint shop next week for an orange repaint then the modern groupset will go back onto that.

  • Not by any means for the purists but I will be putting a lot of riding time in on this, basically it'll take the place of my red super which the group and wheels came from. Just a quick Photoshop colour change at the moment but you get the idea. Should be back from the paint shop in 2/3 weeks time.

  • looks good, 7900 is a big leap

must have looked odd, i;d say 7700 max on a steel bike,
    wheels look ace as well

  • Yer I was never really truly happy with it. Looks much better with a proper period group.

Hoping the orange repaint will prove to suit the modern group a bit more. The wheels going on it are mavic slr's with the black braking track which do help set it off nicely. The proof will be in the pudding though, when I build it up it might turn out looking like a dogs dinner but we'll see.

  • i posted prior your orange bike post, just my opinion, certainly is a diff look,
i'd poss try a 7700 crankset, and keep the rest

  • Here's a shot of the super with 7900 on it. I think it's a combination of the colour and the chrome that make the modern group too clumsy looking for it. Chrome on the Elegant is not salvageable so it'll be all one colour which should help and of course the down tube is noticeably oversized.

  • I fear you might be right.

  • don't look like like your normal style of build, did you pick it up like that?

  • got a cheap pair of kanda kwiktrax at 700x38 for the commuter wheels on the c50 cx, hope they fit!

  • Nope it was my build, guilty as charged.

  • no charge, wars were fought for freedom to choose ;0)

  • partially broken,

pretty heavy damage to paint, but no dents

mudguard mount and chain guard hook
