• It may be worth a look at he http://www.woldcycles.co.uk/ when they're up and running and you're in the market.

  • Don't Tokyo fixed do a suitable frame that was recently on sale?

  • ^^Wold stuff looked really nice at Bespoked.

Regal- what sort of price are you considering for this project? I suspect that will narrow the focus quite considerably.

The Wide Open, yes, I did look at it when I was considering the Mr Pink et al. It went on sale after I got the Osprey, and it's no longer on sale - they only have the 2014 model for £400 without a fork.

I don't want to spend more than the Genesis frame is going to cost, really. That's about what I budgeted for originally (I might refresh the cabling at the same time, that would be the only real extra). All the parts will be transferred straight over from the Osprey.

Longer term, let's see. I've got a lot going on this year, moving house and so on, so I'm in no hurry to get carried away. That orange Rychtarski is certainly a nice-looking bike, though, at a good price.

  • Not ridden one but I bet the 725 equilibrium will ride fantastic. Is the fork it comes with carbon?

  • Yep with alu steerer.

    They do ride great.

Just ordered the frameset from these guys as they were doing it with free delivery and with an M:Part (I think) headset fitted. So it works out very close to the cost of the Pacer + a headset anyway.

  • Nice work!

  • I think you'll be pleased. Another nice feature on the Equilibrium are the tapped holes on the rear bridges for mounting guards.

  • That rych up there is amazing. Really, really very nice indeed.

Edit, new page fail. The Richard Sachs one that is.

  • M:Part (I think) headset fitted.

Quite likely to be the M:Part Elite which is a great headset.

  • Quite likely to be the M:Part Elite which is a great headset.

thats good to here i've got one in my drawer ready to go on something.

  • Quite likely to be the M:Part Elite which is a great headset.

That's what I'm guessing, as that's what they fit to the completes and the site refers to it as "sealed headset worth £45", which is the Elite's RRP.

  • Is it the green?

  • No no, the red frameset.

The green complete that Fred linked to is the Equilibrium 10.

  • Sweet, the red is nice, and your build should complement it nicely...

  • In "race" mode.

  • ^^ hope so. The green is hideous, and the cream's not that nice either. As I think Ed's pic there shows, compact steel frames can look a bit limp without a slammed stem and a good amount of drop. Though I expect, with mudguards and touring wheels on it, won't look much like that one anyway.

  • Will look infinitely better.

  • Expecting the frame to arrive today. I've also had a look at a few more pics and I think the larger sizes have a top tube slope that more or less matches a -6º stem, which is a relief. ^^^ That one isn't very nice to look at.

Another thing I'm going to try is going back to some lighter wheels and 25C tyres. Nothing fancy, just some WH-R501-A. I never really felt like the wide rims and 28s were giving me all that much back in ride quality given how heavy they felt. I may be making a huge mistake, of course. :) If the A319s & 28s fit under the mudguards (Genesis tell me it will be "very tight, but it should work") I might try them first and compare the difference.

  • I had 23mm rims with 25mm on it, fit pretty well.

  • The paint is really nice and it seems welded tidily enough. I was hoping the headset would be black but it looks ok, I guess (the brakes are silver anyway). If I really fall in love with it I can swap that out for a black one.

  • I'd have to change it out
