• #41
I dont have enough watts in me, spin to win, say no to dinner plate cassette etc.
-
• #42
I did think "oh really" when you said you were getting a proper double.
-
• #43
I wanted compact from get go but couldn't find :(
Not that i cant live without it but 11-25 + compact would be nicer with room for climbing cassette. -
• #44
53-39 and 12-26 is fine for everything I've ridden up. Shit roadies say is that way amey>>>>
:-)
-
• #45
Yep 53-39 and 11-25 on my steel bike was more than sufficient for me to climb the alps this summer
-
• #46
aint no one need no dinner plate
-
• #47
depends what you want really, and what your riding style is. I gots compact on the winter bike and big gears on the summer.
Probably the strongest rider I know runs a 48t big ring and he would smash any one of us to bits on the flat, and even more so on a climb. He is happy holding over 100rpm the entire time and is no longer racing, so never really needs anything bigger -
• #48
saying that it's possible to climb alps on a normal double doesn't really tell much of a story because most of the climbs are on well surfaced roads that are rarely very steep. You're more likely to need a compact in the Peak District or Wales than you are in France.

Yeah I'm only twisting ameys arm :-) I'm so weak at the moment that he'd probably ruin me if we were racing against each other.*
*maybe
