  • If you don't mind me saying, I don't think plating crappy frames is the way forward, except maybe as test subjects/examples to get some great frames to plate. Maybe you should persuade someone who's got a seriously natty, fancy bike that needs refinishing to let you loose on it.

  • I've got a curly Hetchins that could be a candidate... Not sure if it would suit copper though.

a reynolds 631 Claud Butler isn't a crappy frame to me. And if the process is relatively inexpensive once you have the equipment, why not? I actually think the opposite- it would be a shame to make a really nice, classic frame look anonymous and utilitarian. I'd never do that to my Basso or my merckx.

  • Read the last few posts...

  • Yep, and? How do they relate to what I said? Sorry if I'm being a bit slow on the uptake.

So if we go through you on here, we can get it done cheaper than the £185 quoted on the website?

  • Quick view at the Peugeot frame and forks I plated today. Once Brasso'd this beast will come up lovely. Otherwise the different colours obtained after handling the copper frame make it a different look.

Still thinking about plating the stem, seat post and crank arms.

What is not crappy about this piece scrappy?

    And?

    Is that relevant?

  • I'm really confused now. Are you adressing me as 'scrappy'? are you now talking to jtlidste? Is what relevant?

I think I've worked it out. You're saying that the peugeot is a crappy frame?

  • Hey guys. I understand both points and I also think a Reynolds 631 is not a crappy frame, it certainly feels great to ride.

No I'm not offering plating services on the cheap. I have just had a go with two frames that I had in the garage as a hobby and a test. I was very curious. And hopefully drum up some business for Nitec. If anybody was interested please contact Nitec for plating.

I am looking at selling the two because I have plus the normal quota of bikes for a happy relationship with the Mrs but I do like them both and not looking for cheap.

The Peugeot is the heavier and cheaper of the two yes.

I agree though when it comes to nice vintage frames it would be better to spend effort on restoring rather than re-vamping.

To answer sombodies question, then no Nickel does not fur up threads. Neither does the copper if you bung the thread when plating.

  • Thanks man. Good luck with your sales.
