  • Meh would rather not get a new set of forks lol I'm sure I can get some clamp ons to fit. Do have an engineering dept at work that could help. Iv only seen the dia comp clamp on brakes though.

  • Ask on some other threads before you clamp a brake on those forks, they look fairly oversized for steel fork which would probably mean a very thin side wall to put a clamp on.

  • Yes I'm gonna have to do some looking into it. Cheers though. I'm sure a solution will arise

  • It was funny to think that I could have to find some other forks which would be a ball ache. So yes I did chuckle a little....

  • Paint if if you wanna paint it. It's now your bike, and the original paint would have been chosen by somebody (a customer, most likely) who thought it looked good.
I think it looks fucking gash, fwiw - reminds me of a particularly nasty Trek paint scheme from ~15 years ago.
Just make sure you put the maker's name back on when the paint's dry.

  • what happened to the Swinnerton, btw?

  • I still have it :-) should be passing it onto a local friend soonish maybe

Do what you want but also what I say. . .

  • None of this is going to be happening any time soon, all just ideas so god knows what i will end up doing.

Funny. The last part was more a piece of advice. Other posts in this thread are practically ordering him not to paint it.
Well worth reinstating at least a head badge for a few reasons - gives the frame an identity, retains the appeal attached to the maker, hopefully eases resale (if the owner cares about that). As for the other seven(!) logos on the frame and forks, I could personally do without them, but hey, it's not my bike...

  • Just for you reference, here is a pic of my Donohue fork with brake drilling.
Was done prior to me owning it, high up enough so the front tyre doesn't rub on the caliper.
Seems to be fine, though I have not actually had to brake hard on it yet.
    Sorry for the massive picture!

  • Might just colour it all in with a sharpie :) but yes thanks for the pic of the fork drilled. Do you know if they found it easy to drill or?... I'm sure I can sort something out it's just a matter of how and when

  • Keep the paint, black parts all round and it'll look the bizzle.
If you've got access to an engineering dept full of dudes in overalls and a steely calm I'm sure they can drill that fork in no time at all without slipping with the drill and chipping the paint. Just make sure they do it in the right place so the caliper clears the bottom headset cup and doesn't rub the tyre!

  • i had very similar forks on my Donohue lo pro (may she RIP) - a Dia Compe clamp on brake will work but you will need the aero clamp mount, not the usual round/oval ones. I think Kinoko sell them separately but I may have dreamt that (I remember importing mine from Japan years ago, it wasn't cheap)

  • Seen though on the velodromeshop online and they are only like £5 or somthing :) so that could be a fix :-) as for black parts most of my parts will be from my current bike which I will attach a pick so you can see what I'm working with for now.
Of the top of my head I'm running

    Njs sugino super lap bb

  • Right guys I just got the frame and got a shim so it will now take 1/18 stem, should give me a wider range to choose from. Any ideas what colour I should get or anything?

  • Just ordered a cheap nasty stem to see how it fits. Spent awhile tinkering and setting up and have a shit picture to show how it's looking.
