This looks like it'll be an epic forum ride like the day of yore. Yaar.
-
• #308
That's kind of the plan amey, I really don't want to be stopping left right and centre for picnics, lasagne, pints etc, just a brief pause at High Beech and then perhaps a quick stop at Londis in Much Hadham if people are peckish.
What time roughly do you expect to be at high beach? As i may join the ride from there work pending.

So we're a day away, and I've summarised the route (really for my own benefit)
East to the end of Bethnal Green Road
Left up Cambridge Heath Road (A107) which becomes Mare Street
Up the Narroway, right onto Lower Clapton Rd (A107), left onto Lower Clapton Rd
Right onto Powerscroft – leftish at widened pavement
At jcn with Chatsworth Rd, diagonal across Millfields
Left at Lea to Princess of Wales pub
Right onto Lea Bridge Road (A104) which becomes Woodford New Rd
Over the N Circular, through Woodford Green, becomes Epping New Rd
Left to High Beech
Don’t go left until you get to the main tea hut overlooking the open space
Onwards, take first right and then right again (difficult turn for a group)
At roundabout, left onto Epping Road
Over the M25
Left onto Bury Lane (B182, SP Epping Green, Roydon)
Left onto B181 (SP Epping Green, Roydon)
At Roydon, left and over railway at station
After crossing A414, right into Kitten Lane
Onto B180 Hunsdon Road to Widford
Cross A120 at Little Hadham
Bear right SP Stocking Pelham
Right up Ginns Lane, SP Stocking Pelham
At Stocking Pelham, left (at burnt pub?) SP St Mary’s Church and Brent Pelham
Bear right past the church
Left onto B1038 at triangle with letterbox on it
Straight past Brent Pelham Church (SP Meesden)
Right at letterbox on right verge (SP Meesden Bury, Langley)
Don’t turn right, follow sign to Langley
Left at T (SP Langley Upper Green, Little Chishall, Royston)
Right at the Bull pub
Left opposite little Baptist church and graveyard (SP Duddenhoe End and Arkesden)
Stay on this road past Duddenhoe End VH
Follow SP to Chrishall, Elmdon, Saffron Walden
Left onto B1039 SP Chrishall, Great Chishall, Royston
Right (SP Chrishall, Chrishall Grange)
Right onto Crawley End
At SP which says Chrishall 3½ back the way you came, right into Grange Road
Cross M11, left onto Hunts Road
At roundabout, use cycle path to cross A505 and right into Hill Farm Road
Left at triangle junction onto Shelford Road
Stay on this road as it bears right (Bridge Lane, Church St, High St)
Left onto A1301
Right onto Granhams Rd (SP cycle path to Addenbrookes)
After level crossing, left onto DNA path
Under new Addenbrookes Road, bear right to roundabout, left on Francis Crick Ave
Left onto guided busway, right on citybound busway
Through station car park, right onto Devonshire Road
Into the pubI can email the gpx route if needed (I don't seem to be able to upload it here)

You up for meeting at Paddington Husy?
Yep, I'll text/PM you guys later. Still trying to get the green light from my sister, I was down for some babysitting.
-
• #313
Is there seriously a Kitten Lane?
Sounds very scenic, might bring the SLR

I'm down. What time does the ride commence again ?

Towards the end, crossing the A505 at that roundabout could be a bit grim. It's a dual carriageway both ways and is always busy.
There's a better crossing further east from Moorfield Rd over to Duxford Rd which has a proper bike friendly central island.
So maybe:
Cross M11, left onto Duxford Road
Follow right on to St Peter's St
Cross A505 on to Duxford RoadThen the two routes join again after this at Shelford Road
I'd always choose that way.
Either way, pls email me the gpx : earlyparts at gmail

• #317
Could I get the .gpx too?
Indrafixed(at)gmail(dotcom)
Much appreciated.
-
• #318
^^shall we see how we go?
The last two times I've done this ride with a group, we managed the crossing OK - it's a staggered crossing, so only one carriageway at a time.
And isn't it left turn only when you reach the A505 from Moorfield Road, and the same sort of staggered crossing as at the other place?
This chap's patience is being tested. -

Soddit, back in again. I have not cycled in a month so may bail if my arse gives up on the way! Running very spinny gear though so legs should be OK.

I am excited for bright cold sunshiney riding.
Yay! -
• #321
^this, been looking forward to this all week! =)
-
• #322
Tell me about it. Been one of those weeks where every morning you ride in and just want to keep going :)
-

If I'm awake, I might come out and wave as you're going past my house!
-
• #324

There is indeed - short and sweet. We'll be riding across some very mild-mannered countryside, nothing desperately picturesque but utterly agreeable, and the autumn colours should be good.

• #325
Do! A few of us will DAWS for you! ;)
As I suggested earlier, try turning right off Lower Clapton Road into Powerscroft Road and then go through South Millfields. Much better.
