  • We should invite the rollapaluza gang down, they have a load of vintage bikes that they restored in storage some where (they may even be stored at herne hill) and one custom built rad as duck bike. Caspars back is also on the mend so he might even play! ill send out a word to him later today :)

  • They already know it's happening, Jack... It'll be great to see the Rolla bike finally on court, tho' I think it still needs some work doing to it...

    Nice one!

  • I'm not sure I'll be in London on that weekend now. Jim is sorting the final bits and pieces out on our funky Polo Bike at Brixton Cycles, not sure when it will be ready. I have been watching the court progress over the weeks.

I'm not sure my feeble back is up to a polo match, if I fall over normally I need to be airlifted to my cryogenic chamber for at least 6 weeks of slow recovery.

    You are slain and ICMFP.

  • I am not slain, I am offended.

  • 'Slain is pretty off-ended, too.

  • Woop, Got Saturday off work for this. I am on it like sonic!

  • In for building bikes and playing polo

not in for sweeping up trackie mess

  • You'll do as you're told! ;P

  • OK I'll get the empty beer cans, you can mop up the chamois cream and hair shavings

  • Awesome, I'm in. Is there a link to some kind of official page I can pass on to anyone else who might be interested?

  • Nope, this is it...

  • There is this tweet, no mention of polo though: https://twitter.com/HerneHillVel/status/387867932228743168

  • Just heard back from HH... They're happy for us to play all day (while everyone else is tidying up around the track) as we've already done a lot of work building the court... Gonna try and get some lights for later on on the day too...

However, we have promised to convert 10 of their mountain bikes into single speed polo bikes...

I need a mechanic on here to come and take a look at the bikes to see what we're gonna need to make them work... Off the top of my head we'll need:

    • Double levers
    • Chain tensioners
    • Cassette spacers
    • Brake cable

Can any of us here get the components we'll need at trade prices? Herne Hill will be footing the bill, but they're not rolling in cash... There are two bike stands available...

Who wants to step up and get this done? I'm not a mechanic so not the best person to get this going...

  • Can help with the conversions but I am not a bike mechanic.

On the subject of double lever, the popular London mod is the obvious choice but we would need a pillar drill for the 6 or 7mm rod: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/odyssey-london-mod-cable-adapter/rp-prod45315

This is a simpler kit as we don't have to drill the rod ourselves but they do not come with barrel adjuster or the fixing bolt: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/twin-pull-diy-cycle-brake-lever-conversion-kit-double-prod31142/

I also saw 2 double levers in Cam's spare bin at Canterbury, don't know if someone grabbed them but will pop him a PM to ask.

  • do HH require a qualified mechanic?

I've worked as a mechanic, but I have no papers

    #bloodyforrins

either way, let me know, I'm free tomorrow and next week

  • I can drill/make a batch of double levers if needed.

  • Front brake only mayhaps ?

Throw them in at the deep end, they'll swim...

  • I'm joking, btw.

  • Why brake cables?

  • They connect the levers to the callipers and "pull" the pads inwards until they engage the rim/disc.

  • Won't the bikes already have said cables connecting levers to brakes on the bikes?
