Ah yeah I get you, sorry I didn't think about that.
I'll see how I get on with this thumby as like I say I'd prefer to be friction but if it's a total pita then I might be in touch.

Finally got the Pathfinder finished (ish - bars are slipping and I want to fit a rear rack but the wishbone is going to be trouble).
Thought it'd be slipping about all over the place off road but if I just shift down a gear - I have about 10 bikes and only this one and one other* are geared so I'm not used to shifting - and stay seated it manages alright.

id love a bike like that surly.
need something practical for next year for carrying art supplies around.
1x1 MTB may well be the way -

That Fox is brilliant! What size tyre combo did you put on it. looking to build something along those lines for some light touring.

Thanks.
The front is 2.2 and the rear a 1.8. There's really not much clearance in the back at all, I doubt I'd even get a 2.0 in there.

I love all of your bikes.
Keep up the good work.

Even though my crosscheck has now arrived I am still tempted by a Troll, which is apparently very similar geo-wise to the 1x1. Have you ever ridden one?

Good god man! begone!Don't you have a shiny new frame to stare at?

I want all the surlys. I even quite fancy a pacer; should have nabbed JB's when he got rid of it.

Pacer is a great frame, I just wanted something a bit lighter for road riding.

I haven't but I too suffer the Surly lust. I'd like a Steamroller to replace my Genesis Flyer, a Crosscheck in place of my Pomp and a Pugsley or Krampus just for more fun in the mud.

I couldn't quite figure out the mounting logic to those racks. Do they attach to the brake bosses ?

Yeah, if you want to. Or to mid fork eyelets. Seems like the most versatile/universally likely to fit rack out there just now.

Got it from ribble, they were cheapest with stock. I didn't get blocks like that with mine, presume they must be an optional extra but otherwise, yeah I think it should work easily enough with a disc brake.

As per discussion in Cupcakes' CrossCheck thread I've decided to turn the Muddyfox into a mtb tourer adventure drop bar type thingywhatsit.
The bars are just mocked up, I've ordered a quill stem that'll (I hope) bring them up and back a bit.
I've got a canti for the front, a stem, a 38t chainring and some cables on the way, that'll get it going but really I could be doing with replacing the headset and sestpost with newer/higher quality items and the cassette I have is 8speed whereas my bar end shifter is 7/friction, I'll use it in friction mode at first but indexed gears might be on the horizon at some point.
I'm happy enough with the clamp on mounts for the lowrider but I'm hoping to go away on the Surly this weekend and depending how that goes the Blackburn Outpost might get moved over to the Muddyfox.

This is so rad.

Looks like a lot of fun-you just need a bar mounted midge eater and it'll be perfect!

Nailed it. Looks great, im fond of the wishbone rear stays detail. You think itll ride well with the front load ?

I'm afraid to say that my understanding of steering geometry is rather lacking so it's going to be a case of finding out when I try it!
I believe the forks on the Pomp came on an OTP trek that used the mud blade eyes as mudguard mounts so not convinced there'd have been much thought put into carrying a load and it rode fine so I'm hoping its a similar story with this.
Got a set of Ortlieb panniers in the mail today and was out playing with them and the Outpost rack just there, I can definitely see me putting that rack onto the Muddyfox instead of the Tortec lowrider.
Also, I did this,

If the bar end shifter are indexed for Shimano 7 speed, then the spacing is identical to the 8 speed, bar one cog.
What you can do, is take off one cog and run a spacer between the hub and cassette to run a 7 speed indexed set-up.
No worries, I was just thinking about the limited bar space.
