• Well that wasn't so bad... Fun games, my body is now broken...

  • Yeah but HH > Newington for numerous reasons. let us know if there's anything we can do to speed up the netting process Joe.

  • ^^ This, my right wrist is badly sprained, all blisters on left hand are mashed and I think my big toe on my left foot is broken, all from one rather silly crash.

Fun games to be involved in and nice to see some old faces and meet new ones too.

Oh polo how I have missed you...

  • Nice to see Beagle too, proving once again that he's a thoroughly nice chap as long as he's nowhere near a polo court or the internet...

  • I have to ask, why is there so little love for this PURPOSE BUILT court?

Getting something built for polo was one of the aims of the original association right? Now it seems there is little interest esp from Northies to make use of it.

If wrong I would happily stand corrected.

  • nailed it ollie.

  • ^^ Yep.

Admittedly I don't use it much yet as I work Sundays.

Well, worked, that was my last one ^_^

  • To be fair to the northies, if you live in Hackney, or Walthamstow, why would you want a two hour plus round trip added onto your day for Sunday throw ins, when Downs is way closer? Herne Hill is fairly deep south compared to Newington, it's a long spin from E10 or the like. When I was living in Camberwell I was rarely bothered going up to Downs.

BTW I think HH is the best court in London - the boards are way safer than any 'cage', the surface is smooth, there's no 'out' points in the board that the ball can slip out of, there's no football playing urchins waiting around to kick the ball against a fence, it's spacious, there's no poles jutting out that send the ball you've played off the wall straight back in the same direction it came in, there's always goals there, it's fantastic. When the weather gets better and there's more light in the evenings, I do hope it picks up. Having said that though, I'm happier when there are just seven of us... :-)

  • Fair points.

To clarify, I wasn't taking a pop at those north of the river just wanted to know the factors, i.e. location, court size and smoothness in comparison.

  • Main reason: Snoops hasn't been down for an official court surface inspection yet...
    #trufax #ministryofsurface

  • Give it time and there will be a whole new community of people clustered around the HH court. People in Brixton need to know it exists and we need to make it accessible.

That's nto very easy when we have to work around track sessions and have sporadic sessions!

  • HH, today... I fucking give up... :(

Are you guys not able to Hilti bolt into the tarmac surface? Looks like they are just tipping over rather than breaking?

If you use decent fixings and they are fired in properly then if you come to move the court/ change the size at a later date then there shouldn't be anything protruding from the tarmac surface.

Such a shame that the courts out of action :(

  • Court is absolutely fine now, problem we have is track season is about to start so we won't have access 'til the net goes up...

  • To be fair to the northies, if you live in Hackney, or Walthamstow, why would you want a two hour plus round trip added onto your day for Sunday throw ins, when Downs is way closer? Herne Hill is fairly deep south compared to Newington, it's a long spin from E10 or the like.

This. I would love to play at HH but currently sessions start silly early on a sunday, my one lie-in day and its a trek which will take up the majority of sunday. Downs is much closer so i play there on a weekend afternoon. When the nets are up and we can play at midday- afternoon then ill deffo come along.

For the record though, its awesome that HH exists and it does look like the best court in london. I am yet to play on it with my polo bike though, despite having been down twice to fix the boards

  • I've been down to work on it more than I've played it, thank you very much

  • actually, i think fixing the court and then getting drunk in Le Reej was probably more fun than playing bike polo

  • Always...

  • I've been down to work on it more than I've played it, thank you very much

    This.

But, finally, I have Sundays off.

    Just as track league starts.

  • Newington anyone?

  • Any news on the nets? I miss HH.

  • Tim and Ryan were looking at getting something together but I'm kinda out of the loop/out of energy...

Feel free to pick up the reins, Kev...

  • OK. I'm busy with getting that Westway tournament together now, but will ask them in a week's time or so if there's been no update from them and see if I can help.

  • Am always in for help too

  • Am waiting for final confirmation but it looks like we'll be able to play polo from 3pm (or thereabouts) 'til it goes dark tomorrow...

It's the velodrome open day so there'll be lots of fun stuff to do during the day, beer tent and food stalls etc...

Will confirm as soon as I hear back for certain but this looks 99% on...

  • BTW Please let me know if there's actually any interest in playing tomorrow or not...
