Valid points but why have limited choice of old 26mm bars for the same weight and cost? Adapters are ok, just not much on an 'upgrade'.
The deda adapter weighs 150g, add 150g for a stem and a spacer and it's equal or thereabouts with most quills.

anyone knows what the crown diameter is on a columbus tusk light fork? were there multiple generations of the same model?

repped for dismantling infuriatingly fiddly stuff and putting it back together again!

well, thanks! i find it really entertaining (except when i find broken crap quality parts..)

this has come a long way but only a week or so to go till i have some gears once again..

i think this will make a nice stealth fighter..

Nice SP, matches the fork.. Guess sourcing a matching stem would be the next step. I like the crankset, actually those older UT silver centaurs are perfect for any steel roadie. Though I'd say they look astonishing with the black frame too, they almost shine beside the tubes. That feature would be lost with black components. Definitely keep the silver gruppo!
It seems your mali came a long way :D

that's why i asked velocio to change the thread title ;)

could't wait for all the parts to arrive so i threw the bits together. according to the measurements, this will finally fit. should finish this in the next two weeks..

Stealthy. I'm not into black generally, but this is pleasing. Grab some alkaline solution or oven cleaner, strip the anodising off the brake levers then re-anodise them to black. WOuld perfectly match.
Some nice white or gray outer cables would match nicely with the colours of the decals.
Though even classy silver parts match well with the frame, thereby I don't think it's that crucial to change the colour of some parts. :) Too bad for the long fork steerer, though it'll be easier to sell the forks later with long, uncut steerer imho.
nice wheelset, though I'd rather buy silver spokes. "Óccókici", much cheaper than the black ones. :) Can save money when you have to lace 64 or 72 of them. Where did you get the rims by the way?
cheers.

don't want to go black on the parts.. the plan was to go with silver on black (spokes do not count as i really don't like silver spokes, so they had to be black). there will be a few more silver parts (custom machined spacer and stem cap) but that's it
rims came from a friend's spare wheelset :)

The silver makes this bike. Much nicer than a boring stealth build (though I disagree on black spokes, makes me think of cheap MTBs)

i know most don't like black spokes in general but i just can't go silver. i like the contrast they give on the hubs (and how the silver nipples - though hard to see - do the same on the black rims)

long time since last post.. the Cube was built and sold to a friend so he could use it as a training bike (did not fit me in the end) - http://s4.postimg.org/q03wbjewd/DSCN1805.jpg
found a Pesenti frame that I just had to buy so I could feel closer to a Cinelli Laser. it has Shimano 5500 all over and is a perfect fit - I haven't posted anything here as it is so comfortable that once it was built, I did not have to think about altering anything.. didn't even have a "project" phase. she is my runaround bike, but now, with winter coming, I will take her apart, give the frame a new paintjob and some nicer bits (Syncros stem and seatpost, Deda compact bars). I will upgrade her from runaround to trainer.

Shit.. if you show this a week ago, I'd have bought that 3ttt quill stem .. since then I've bought one frombellabici :) I needed a longer one.
VERY NICE FRAME. Almost exactly something what I'd want for myself. Though I'd probably stick with campag, just from comfy-aesthetics. But I guess you'll upgrade the gruppo later.
Probably If you can contact tuttibringa, he'd be able to get boxed DA7700 parts if you'd want a period-correct build. I recall he sold boxed 7701 cranks with wrapping still on them for 12k HUF.
Anyway, looking forward to adjustments.
Also, out of curiousity, are the wheels your previously built ones with 105 hubs and ambrosio rims, or they came with the bike?
I hate black, but the glossy finish of that centaur gruppo is great. Best thingy that in weight it pretty much competes with Ultegra. :) They are in different league, though..

saw some reference to a carbon frame in the cannondale owners thread.. is that project running, or what is the current state of the roadie build?
out of curiosity, do you know anyone who'd gladly paint UT cranks or apply some surface anodising onto them?
Loved that pesenti, looked very elegant with the rawsatinish finish.

no updates.. too busy with everything to upgrade.. building a kona paddy wagon winter rat tho, will update thread when i get it back from the framebuilder. got some nice canti bosses on, but no cantis for me. will be much better!
cannondale is just sitting here in my room gathering dust, but don't mind that as it wouldn't be going out in this weather anyways.
the 105 is staying - goes well with the crap tubing of the frame :D it was intended as an entry level model and i got some nice flight deck parts too. the finish is not raw but silver.
about the UTs.. never needed to do anything similar so i can't recommend anyone

here's a small update - got a pair of mizuno forks from a friend. now, andrea pesenti worked for mizuno, so the current forks are from the company (no branding, though). i went for the new pair as they are straight blade and full carbon (nothing like putting a featherlight fork in an entry level frame).
to my surprise they are actually mizuno branded! decals have seen better days but so has the frame.. i'm thinking of leaving it as is (clean rust and laquer over @Rik_Van_Looy style)
also got this to finish the groupset. going to convert it to ahead :)

got the paddy wagon back from the framebuilder. and got a decent camera too. well, half decent at least.. photos might have too much dof, but will hopefully get the hang of it. and i think you can see where this is going..

finally managed to install the hydraulic brakes to the paddy wagon. getting closer to the ultimate commuter..
it's been a long time since i first saw this - http://velospace.org/node/8801 - and fell in love. don't know exactly why - i think it's the colour of the frame. bought @1_n's '06 wagon last year (close enough) and collected some bits - i used it brakeless for a while as it only meant transferring bits from my previous fixed gear and now.. well here it is.
still need to install the king headset (would like to go for a rasta and i'm missing the baseplate, so that part is still on hold) and some mudguards. maybe shorten the cables. i'll make some custom brake boosters as the front brake is held on with two factory boosters (no clearance for the hooks) plus they are plain fugly.. a setback seatpost and it's done.

Splendid work
Good find on those HS66 too - very nice. -

kona project is still on - it will soon be upgraded with the following stuff to handle winter conditions even better (and later on for some light SSCX):
this:
-kona p2 disc 26" forks
- magura julie calipers and magura rotors
- wheelset to handle disc brakes: dt x444d rims on novatec hubs
- schwalbe kojak 35c tires
- full mudguards
what guards would you recommend for 35c tires?
- magura julie calipers and magura rotors

SKS chromoplastics?
they come in at diff'rent sizes.
sometimes it just not worth it. The adapters are heavy s fck (though here I can buy it for 1100 HUF, which is about 3,1 pounds.) they also look out of place with the threaded headsets (threaded hs-s usually have more height, and they look awkward with ahead stems)
Nobody wants standard 26mm handlebars these days, thereby if you stuck with quill stems and threaded headsets, you can follow my example.. get some cheapish handlebar (I bought BBB fastbar, weighs 256 grams and cost me 10 euros) with some not too heavy stem (250-280 gram range is acceptable, you can have those old ITM-3ttt or Modolo stems for 10-14 euros) and there ya go.
With an adapter, it's almost impossible to get your "stem-adapter" combo below 300 grams with an acceptable budget.. : )
If I were HMA, I'd just repaint the frame in Red, get some decals from the "dekorguy" and save some money for a Saeco Coffe Machine. Two years ago my mother got one Saeco (don'tknowwhichmodelcostednotthatmuch) machine for christmas.. since then I've became a bit picky when it comes to coffee...
Good Luck With the Build.
