I used to work just around the corner from where this happened on Duke's Place and sad to see this. The Tesco, Pret and Eat were the places I used to grab my lunch from and then seat by the many flowerbeds observing cyclist and traffic. RIP fellow cyclist.

I'm moving back to the City soon. When is something going to be done about the totally inappropriate vehicles driving around London's tiny streets?
Thoughts to the rider's family and friends.

RIP lady rider. A life taken way too soon. One can only hope that the statistic that this awful episodes adds to, is one which helps push through change.

Poor lady, what a terrible outcome. I heard the vehicle had completed a delivery at a crossrail site, which probably means it was one of safer lorries on the road with all the sensors and extra mirrors. How can a lorry driver look in all the mirrors and through all the windows, and pay attention to all the sensors buzzing while watching out for every one of us going around them from all angles? All us road users need to find harmony one way or the other, finger pointing has never helped us or them, people still die.

The Evening Standard has an update on the investigations. Main pointes are:
it was a Crossrail lorry
driver was on a hands- free phone
two of the lorry's three side sensors were not working
Crown Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute after reviewing CCTV evidence. It concluded that driver did not fail the standard of being a “competent motorist”.
City of London coroner Paul Matthews recorded a verdict of accidental death.

What does 'accidental death' mean?
An act of god?
A Random incident?Surly if a person dies, say, by slipping while alone climbing a cliff then perhaps this is an accident (if suicide is discounted). If a person dies when a vehicle is faulty, a driver is distracted on the phone (whether or not using hands free is technically legal -it shouldnt be ) then at least a verdict of manslaughter or corporate manslaughter should be the case, no?
If such a thing happened on any other transport system, say on the railway, where there was a system fault AND the driver was eating an apple, heads would roll. You really can get away with murder, if you wanted to, by using a car.
(According to today's news about a cyclists death in Vauxhall, the driver wasn't arrested. )

If anyone see a tipper truck coming from behind, move the fuck away.
I'm now terrified of them after my g/f crashed when trying to avoid crashing into me.

So you're suggesting Ed that if you see the tipper (and the drivers sees you) you should move away from the line of sight of the driver?
Another black day.
My thoughts are with you, fellow rider.
