I don't know if this is an amazing idea or a terrible one. Anyone gonna do their test event?

No high spec race bike, No problem!
You don't need a flashy carbon frame or super fly wheels. STREETVELODROMETM provides a fleet of great quality frames equipped with a single gear (not fixed), disc braking and dropped race bars. You'll get a free practice session to get used to your ride. Each bike is fitted with a timing transponder to ensure the timing is accurate and instantly shown to the competitors and crowd.this is worrying, if entry will be free for all

Wow- they are signed up with WADA!
The StreetVelodrome Series adopts the UK Anti-Doping and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) position that cheating, including doping, in sport is fundamentally contrary to the spirit of sport, undermining the otherwise positive impact of sport on society.

Bringing head to head track action right into the heart of the UK’s town’s and cities StreetVelodromeTM will be re-creating the close wheel to wheel action of track racing using a temporary 250 metre course set within closed public roads and complete with two especially designed feature banked curves. Visually it will appear as though the road itself has been raised up to form the iconic banked corners of an Olympic velodrome.
Along with the energy and encouragement of the track side presentation host and a team of cheer leaders the fans lining the course will enjoy the unique opportunity of being able to view the entire course at an outdoor cycle event. Guaranteeing they will not to miss any of the action. But with the use of a specially developed StreetVelodromeTM Fan’s App available for both Apple and Android devices, the crowd lining the course can engage in the racing like never before.Choosing to support one of two opposing teams of riders, fans trackside are set to receive handfuls of goodies thanks to the enthusiastic cheer leaders if a rider from their team wins his race. Using the StreetVelodromeTMFan’s App spectators can vote for their favourite of the 24 competing riders; try to predict the overall winner for a chance to win a prize draw; follow links to live event social media and even send messages to be read out by the race host. But critically at the end of each round of this action packed knock out tournament on wheels the fan’s vote will bring one eliminated rider right back into the competition as the Fan’s Wildcard.
The event offers a great range of sporting and commercial benefits, including:
• Free event offering a range of attractions for families, cycling fans and local communities.
• A local schools programme leading up to the event
• Trackside event expo / market arena offering cycle and non-cycle related attractions.
• Providing a boost town centre Sunday trading retail / leisure and tourism.
• Local interest as local amateur riders compete against national pro-riders
• Local, regional and national media interest
• Increasing access to the close exciting nature of track cycling
• Promoting cycling as a sport and leisure activity

Could be fun, though having a 'StreetVelodromeTMFan’s App' sounds gash.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction but anyone heard of them? Are they another new face on the block do they have any experience as they claim? I think the concept is great but to be honest the statement 'Pitching amateur against pro in a unique city or town centre cycling challenge' I find slightly scary on a track fine on the open road but having numpties who have never done it before on a track is bound to lead to crashes.
-
• #19
From what i've read it's going to be a pursuit affair, so not too much chance of crashing
-
• #20
It looks like a 100m sprint into a Red Bull minidrome to me. The bikes they supply better have about 40 GI.
-
• #21
I am confused by this.
-
• #22
I'm more confused by the lack of crash mats. That's the one thing Red Bull had to change after the first MiniDrome event.

^ This
"Yeah, but there ain't no crash mats on da streetz though" - StreetVelodromeTM (perhaps)

Just noticed they're going to have cheerleaders.
