If you search Weight Weenies mtb forum you'll find mixed information on the Speen adapator. The original intent, I believe, was to convert road mechs to be used on 2x9 mtb for racing .. a road mech with Speen is also lighter then an mtb mech. Carbon-Ti also make a version.
