You can probably get a train from Brixton/Herne HIll to pretty close by thanks to the Orpington line.

If I can find out where you are I might join in for a bit - say - Edgware to Wood Green, however doing the whole route looks like purgatory. Interested to see the Strava on this one!
Oh yes, there's one question I've been meaning to ask about this ride...
WHY??????????? -
• #130
Because its there to be done
Whyyy not?

I'll be running the "Real Time GPS Tracker" android app, and I have an extra large phone battery that allows me to keep it on for the whole ride. It's mainly so that Mrs Earthloop can see that I'm still moving and not dead in a ditch, but it would also work for this.
If you install it and PM me your gps tracker username, I'll authorize you to see where I am.

I'll be taking a crack at the route next Saturday, to look for problem spots and stopping places. I'm aiming to be at the start for 8am, anyone who feels like it is welcome to join me for some or all of it.
I may not make it all the way round, we'll see.

Try scouting it out in parts - say four split up over 2 weekends. Do some on saturday, then take the train to another point on the sunday. Then repeat the following week - there is no point killing yourself just to scout out the route.
I would love to help, but I have an audax ride I'm doing on saturday. But can help next weekend. If my plans about saturday change then I will let you know.
I was going to suggest perhaps getting this recognised as an Audax UK ride, but looking at the handbook that could be hard given the time frame. What do people think about that suggestion?
Not quite the same as putting it up on facebook - but since we are in the process of becoming a cycle club. Why not do things more like a club was my thinking.

Something like this may well happen, I'll see how far I get on Saturday.

I did not pay attention to the real route when out with mespilus junior & a mate the other Sunday, returning from a gentle ride along the Thames.
We went along the A312 near km 40,
rejoining the official route at km 47.9 (junction A4/A312).There is a purpose built cycle path, on 'our' side of the road
all the way to km 52.5, (Junction with A4020).Then it's back on the A312 Parkway,
where we turned off towards Ruislip at km 55.1 -

This road is a bit like a mini M25 between Cranford and Northolt, either a car park or 60/70mph between the cameras. There are major/scary junctions first being a hell for leather roundabout at the A4, another at Hayes Rd, an underpass at A4020, a fast roundabout at Willow Tree Lane at Yeading and then the multi lane A40 Target Roundabout. The cycle path is a bit narrow but paved. Best judged on the day by individual riders.

It's an LFGSS ride, Facebook can >>>>>>>>>>>>
It was just a suggestion, many LFGSS rides to Brighton or the Dunwich Dynamo had also a group on FB.

Did i dream it up or were the original instructions that it had to be ridden fixed ?
if so what gearing are people going for ?
thinking 48*19 ?

I think it may have been a dream, yes. You can do it on space hopper for all I care, although if you want to take the fast route on the A312 then you might consider switching to a unicycle for that part. That option may also have cropped up in a dream.
I will be going fixed, since it's mostly flat and urban. 49/19.

Normal city gearing of 48x19 or 45x17 for me, or possibly 48x17 if I can be bothered to bring the disc out and ride it for 120 miles.

Shitty ballsacks. I'm out. Family stuff. Shame - would've made a great first forum ride...

hopefully will have my roadbike up and running for this!

I'll be 48 x 18 on the newly upgraded Fort. Still no bottle holders or anything useful for a ride like this though, of course.
-
• #149
I'll be unashamedly riding my Daccordi and enjoying a whole range of useful gear options.

Pleased I won't be the only one... The Canyon it is.
I'll be the same. May get the train to whatever godforsaken place is the 'start line'
