Isn't Mike Burrows(?) really into these, especially in relation to setting peddle powered speed records?
Yea Mike Burrows designed some of these and rode them regularly at HPV events at Eastway cycle circuit. They're bloody fast (as are many recumbent bikes)

...40-50km/h cruise speed, for "average" people???
You aren't an average person when you get into one of these.
Take a look above, you turn into a fucking land shark!

Well yeah, cause you're really aerodynamic. I read an article about a guy building one of those body's around a 125cc motorcycle and due to the aerodynamics he managed to let it ride 90km's on 1 liter.

I definitely want one. Can you still use a bus lane...?

Bus lanes and tornados

These do look great fun, but I have the same concern that I feel when I see a recumbant- that you are wholly below the hip line of a car, so they (even more than usual) simply turn into you due to SMIDSY.

It may seem that way, but these things, even unfaired ones, actually attract a disproportionate amount of attention.

Another issue is the similarity to the C5^ which was considered really naff in its day as well as its reputation for tipping over.
You can easily get around that problem by not choosing a trike.

That's much harder to do if you have 2 wheels at the front.

My neighbour does pedal car racing , races at Ringwood every two years against the likes of Royce team.
He is also a bloody wierdo, but not sure if that is related.

I was always considered a bit of a weirdo at most places where I worked because I cycled.
Now everyone does it and I feel a bit too normal. I think a velomobile is just what I need to maintain some eccentricity. -

could always glue something to your helmet and wear mad socks.

I see quite a few of them around Copenhagen, and share most of nutjesmoars views. And when I'm in a car it's even worse. They ride like a bike, but lower than the mirrors, which makes turning across bikelanes sketchy.

I believe they are what you wear with sandles.

LESS weird? are you sure?
Er, differently weird then. The pedal version of a smart car.
