My Serotta has been pretty resilient - it's taking a horrible beating at the moment from grit/water/mud and needs to be cleaned top to bottom after each ride, keeps coming up well again.

All the paint will fall off today just because I posted that^

Cheers Tim... we'll have to go on a Roberts ride when they're done : )
Indeed. I still have some nice Belgian Afflingens around

Gaz- have you let the paint cure since Mario did it? It will chip very easily for the first couple of weeks so probably best to leave it before building. I built my Merckx too quickly after he painted it and always regretted chipping the paint.
I haven't got all the bits yet anyway, so at the moment they're just sitting on my sofa. Paint seems quite tough though, I accidentally swung the bars into the top tube and nothing happened. According to Mario, curing times are a myth; the paint is as tough now as it's ever likely to be.
You should have gone out to the woods and chopped down a tree instead, or anything else the doesent included a respray of the frames, (ugly color to)

Croydon. Generally thought of as a bit of a shithole. At least one or two nice bikes came out of it.
So... is the road frame a Roberts that had been repainted by Rourke? Sorry if I missed something.

I just impulse bought 2 boxes of dark grey Fizik Soft Touch tape and a second Nitto S65 on ebay.
I should really step away from the computer now...Still, I think it'll look pretty good with the red wine coloured frame, and not get all shitty like white tape would.
i know those bars...

Yup... repainted by Rourke for a rider they sponsored, who Primitive Robot bought the frame off:

Indeed you do!

I'm thinking of getting some 215 bars, guessing you got yours off ebay?
-
• #188
Yeah, ebay. Second hand ones appear every now and again for about £15.
They're much more new so it's worth holding out for a bargain. -

This might be of interest... I cut down my Pearl stem this morning so now it fits further into the steerer. Still needs a bit of filing, but it's going well so far:

In other news: I now have a front mech, a track BB, another seatpost, and some silver 215s on order.
I've also had the headsets fitted, the seat tubes reamed and the BB shell chased and faced or whatever you call it... and installed the BBs
Won't be long now til the road frame can be built... then I can sell off bits from my current road bike to fund track cranks and new rims. -

This is the best CP i've seen in a long time.
One day I will emulate this. Preferably with custom matching Oak frames. -

First, resprays all around, and now this? Is nothing sacred? :)

• #193
Ha ha ha ha ha, not any more!
Here's how things are looking at the moment:Been testing out bar tape options... ordered grey but black arrived, so thinking of keeping it. Or maybe white.
-
• #194
Black or grey.
Grey best though I reckon, nice that it's that little bit different. -
• #195
That's what I was thinking. Trying to imagine how they'll look with silver Omega Vs as well. White option would mainly be an excuse to use Benotto on the track bike like before.

• #196
bikes look awesome Gaz, starting to regret selling that frame now. lozzles

This is of interest actually. Looking to do the same with my Nitto Pearl. Did you just use a g-clamp and a hacksaw? Any tips?

Yeah, clamped to the table with a couple of g-clamps as per the top photo, then used a good quality, two handed hacksaw (with a bit of WD-40 on the blade) and just took it easy and kept checking it was straight.
Then I neatened up the angle and copied the chamfers from the original quill end onto my new end using a wide, flat file. As far as I could figure out, the most important thing is to get exactly the right (correct) angle for the wedge-nut to butt up against, otherwise the stresses will end up being in the wrong places and you'll be risking a failure.Let us know how you get on!

Totally forgot about this thread. I'm a fan of your work, Gaz!
Loving the Coca-Cola / Austin Aleggro brown shade you'd gone for.
Track bike looks excellent! Black bar tape and modern Record Pista cranks ftw! -

Cheers!
Can't take credit for the colour, that was stolen directly from Dammit's Serotta. I really wanted the same as the original track bike colour, but Mario said he couldn't get that colour any more. The dark red looks amazing in the sun.
I've been riding the (almost) finished road bike around for a couple of weeks now and have finally taken a (slightly shit) photo... excuse the geeky bar bag and imagine silver Omega Vs on silver hubs, etc:I've got £80 in the New Wheels Fund so far. And nothing in the Track Cranks Fund until my Bianchi sells, which looks unlikely any time soon.
^ charming
