I've been replying from my phone for the last 5 days as I was away from my computer. For some reason some emails didn't get through and other did.
I'm back now so feel free to email me on here or at james@noquarterbikes.co.uk

Have they had your Trek for 2 months now @big_daddy_wayne ?
Wow.... -
• #157
Have they discovered how hard it is to strip a carbon frame?

• #158
I'm in the process of speaking to Wayne about this problem and I'm sorting it, it has nothing to do with our skills as painters, just my fault with booking in too much work and quoting job finish times too soon.
Paint-work is extremely labour intensive (we spend more time painting the frames than some builders spend making them) so when I get the timing wrong it's not a couple of days out it's usually a couple of weeks or even months. I hold my hands up and say I've made the mistake for biting off more than I can chew but I've learn't a lot from it and I'm putting things in place so this problem doesn't arise again.

Considering @hoops did an amazing job on his Talbot pretty much over night (maybe 2 nights?), maybe skill does come into it a little bit?
-
• #160
How are you taking the old paint of the carbon frame? I'm interested. I've done it myself, twice. It's really, really hard.
-
• #161
From the previous page, talking about the crabon S works: we completely stripped the frame by acid-dipping and media blasting.
-
• #162
That S-works was aluminium.
We strip carbon frames a number of ways depending on the colours used (obviously blacks are the thinnest and whites are the thickest) but it's all done by hand, no chemicals.
-
• #163
Why exactly are you stripping it back to the carbon? There really isn't any need unless bare carbon is part of the finish.

BDW is a WeightWeenie innit, paint cost nuff grams.

So, has anybody heard from JamesNQ lately? Two weeks ago he was supposed to have sent me a frame. Now he doesn't seem to answer my emails or PMs. The frame is nowhere to be seen nor do I have a tracking number...

Uh oh!

-
• #168
I contacted him via his facebook page the other day and he got back to me pretty sharpish.
-
• #169
At this point I just want to know whats going on. Facebook page and Instagram seems active so I´m still hopeful.

All emails responded to - any questions or queries acknowledged and explained.
Wayne's frame has been finished and I'm in regular contact with him.
As it's my business people want to speak to me directly as I can use my experience and judgement on advising the best solution for a custom or concourse paint-job. I aim to respond to all emails the same day at james@noquarterbikes.co.uk which is my primary email address. Keeping up with other private messaging on social media sites and forums can take me a little longer to reply.

It's not up to me to show the final shots but here's a frame in our shiny new paint booth...
We've also taken on some gravity guns (not as cool or exciting as they sound) so we can spray metal-flake awesomely.
In the next few weeks we're going to have ceramic lacquer in which we can't wait to test out on bike frames. We've used it on some of the race cars with fantastic results. Watch this space!
