  • This kind of thing?

Lots of 15 to QR adaptors on ebay.

  • Yes,
I have written to Son about it.

    Lots of end caps,
    adaptors,
to be fitted on each side of the hub by reputable companies to cater for the ever increasing variety of axles.

  • Son answered,
they are ok with the use of adaptators to convert from 15 to 9mm.
    They recommend Ritchey and Nukeproof.

  • anyone keen on a hunt superdura dynamo front wheel? I picked it up here and and not exactly what I'm after.

  • Yes, I used one on the Kinesis before I got a QR hub, at which point the Kinesis snapped and I had no bike I could use the QR hub with.

  • Does anyone have a dynamo wheel I could hire for the second two weeks of May for a touring trip to Scotland

I do have a SP dynamo on a 700c disc wheel with thru axles which I'll be returning for a reconditioned hub via the distributor but they aren't likely to have the model I want till after my trip departs. I've got a non dynamo wheel to lend as none of us want a bicycle without a full set of wheels

  • Bit of a weird issue with my sp pD-8 hub today...

I felt a bit of a vibration, thought that maybe something was stuck between the tyre and the front mu guard. when I pulled over to check it out I realised that my front light cable (that's insulation taped to my front rack) had started pulling itself free and wrapping around the hub axle.

On closer inspection, it seems as if the part of the hub that the wires connects to isn't spinning freely anymore, really notchy and enough resistance to pull the cable from it's tape. Notchy enough that I could feel it through the bars when riding.
The hub bearings themselves are spinning fine, the hub has covered less than a thousand miles since I had it.
Has anyone had a similar issue?

  • That sounds like a ballache. I would hit it with a hammer. A 'Park Tools' hammer obvs.

  • Good plan. Don't have a blue hammer....yet

Here's a video link (if it works)

  • Sounds obvious but is your wheel held securely in the fork?

  • Yes this occurred to me - axle not slipping?

  • Pretty sure it was ok, no noticeable disc rub or wobble.
Thinking about it, the steel fork has been in an accident with its previous owner, seems straight but could squiffy dropouts be the issue?

  • @MCamb @Skülly
I think I was having a brain fart yesterday. I tightened the qr up this morning and it's holding it nice and snug now.
For some reason my brain was thinking that it should be spinning freely instead of staying put in one place.
I shall now slowly back away with an embarrassed look upon my face

  • We all have em (brain farts). Good that it was an easy fix!

  • Sounds like your QR, thruaxle wasn't tight enough. I had this at the start of TCR4 - lights went out on a downhill because the connector had rotated and pulled the clip/wires out. Once the QR was tighter it was fine.

  • Oh you found the issue. Carry on.

  • Son delux, best bet for road riding?
If anyone has a thru axle CL one for sale let me know.

  • Anyone got a cheap 32h dynamo hub for sale?

  • rim or disc brake?

  • Don't mind tbh, not going to be running a brake on the front wheel

  • Just had the first trial run of my DIY dynamo switch. Have an Sp 8 hooked up to a Supernova E3 and Igaro D1 via a rocker switch. Worked admirably I reckon. Next test is 10 days down the west coast of Ireland.

  • Anybody got any experience of Spacycles new own branded Kasai hub dynamos?
I was gearing up to splash out on a Son 28 in boost (29"MTB) when I came across their dyno hub:

    https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m20b0s133p4799/SPA-CYCLES-FS-FK5D-Hub-Dynamo-%2815mm-Thru-Axle-6-Bolt-Disc%29-User-Serviceable

Chap at Spa said he had ordered TPI? Bearings in them as otherwise they would have been Chinese ones. Very little online reviews/testing of them. One cyclist said he got the same output as on his Son and SP and drag was somewhere between. They also are field serviceable but I wouldn't have a clue but nice to not have to take the hub out of the wheel and send it back to the factory etc if there was a problems with it.

  • They also are field serviceable

That is good to hear. They seem to be only available as 32-hole hubs though, and black finish only.
