  • Without trying to start an argument, is grupetto going to have this for their track meet? Looking at the results from last year you didn't have any women's races.

I can't speak for Dan, but my views on this thread are my own and not part of a club. If I feel that I can express my opinion to those who are running a track day (friends like you or people who are part of my club) then I will, in a constructive way.
I just think that two categories for women as well as men is fair, as is equal prizes (if there are any). If time is an issue then maybe less types of race would be more agreeable. Perhaps lose the unknown distance as that is only really for when it is getting dark, or maybe have Devil OR Keirin.

Perhaps none of this stuff is even an issue, as I haven't really seen any posts from women discussing how they feel about the programme, just men who think they know. Confusingly, there is a seperate thread on the Ladies forum (http://www.lfgss.com/thread109915.html), which seems counter-intuitive to the idea of equality.

  • ^ this too. I'm an individual!

It just seems confusing to me. But I guess some of the ladies subforum ladies don't venture into this subforum much.

  • The thread on the ladies forum was started by Poots with a link to this thread so people could sign up here. Did you read through all the posts first?

I don't even think there is a huge problem and you guys are being a little over sensitive. As you say none of the ladies who have confirmed are posting about it. There's no need to keep going on about it.

Lets keep this thread limited to signing up, hyping up and sponsor announcements from Amey and Laner.

  • ^ this, remember the URL in the flyer points to this thread.

  • With 11 women on the list, 6 of whom haven't confirmed, do you really think it feasible to have two womens' categories?

  • I see Scoot is lurking. Confirm!!!! Confirm! CONFIRM!!!!!

  • As someone in possession of a vagina and probably racing I would like to state that I'm not bothered about only one womens category. Sure there's going to be a wide range of skill within one group but it will be more interesting than having 3/4 people in each race.

I'm going to do the induction on saturday and then I will confirm! I'm 80% committed!

  • Yay vaginas!

  • As someone in possession of a vagina

You should probably give that back

Someone might be needing it :-/

  • Just got a flashback to a recent discussion at an antenatal class.

    POC.

  • I would only choose to have separate categories because I'm terribly selfish and if there are less people racing I'm more likely to win a prize... ¬_¬

    :D

  • Who said prizes are for race winners? There's always a wooden spoon.

  • I don't think anyone was being oversensitive about it.

  • I'm not fussed about how many women's categories there are - at the moment, with the numbers of (potential) sign ups, it makes sense to only have one. If there's a massive influx of women then let's have another category. As long as there are wooden spoons, I'm happy.

(I might race, will see how my gimpy arm is nearer the time.)

  • Excellent. Totally need new wooden spoons in my house, either the handles are too long or idiots keep putting them in the dishwasher and they've split.

  • All you guys want is wooden spoons? wish i'd known that before wasting my time emailing companies for prizes!

  • I want one of these, get on the case Laner!

  • I just want beer.

  • Not read all of this thread, so forgive me if I have missed something.

I organised the last two Grupetto open track meets, and there were women only events in both. Unfortunatley it was a struggle to the sepperate womens events properly, as both years there weren't really enough women who entered to do so. These were proper BC sanctioned race meetings though, which require race licenses, not like this LFGSS thing which is just a bit of fun. Due to this you may have more women entering, which will make running sepperate races a lot better for the racers and spectators. We made a great effort to run seperate races, but unfortunatley they were undersubscribed, and being accused of ignoring the need for women only races is not on. I think you'll find we tried to offer the most women only events out of all the open meetings last year.

Most of the time, there are only 5 or 6 women riding at a race meeting, and in my experience they would rather ride with the B cats (A cats in some cases) than ride with such a small field, as you are not really able to race properly in such a small group.

I don't really post on this forum anymore, as it's mostly just a bunch of tools arguing about pointless bullshit, but reading it this afternoon, there seems to be a lot of debate going on at the moment about women only cycling events. From the quick scan I've had, it seems there is a lot people moaning about the lack of such events, and not many people actually doing anything about it. Organising a race meeting takes a lot of time and effort, and is mostly a thankless task..... So step up! If you build it, they will come!

Wiesia organasid a cracking women only race meeting last year that was a great success, and attracted riders from all over the country. So that proves that there is demand for such events, you just need more people willing to put the time in to organise them, publicise them, and generally make them happen!

Thats just my opinion, and i wont bother checking back here, so feel free to flame away.

  • You may or not read this Rob, but i apologise for making out Grupetto are not trying to promote women's races; that really wasn't my intention.

I'm actually interested in knowing how you guys do it, thanks for explaining.
I look forward to racing at your event, from the updates looks like you've put a lot of effort in!

    Now back to the spoons!

  • Our policy for the grupetto track meet is parity for male and female riders.

There is the opportunity for female sprint teams to race and their prize money will be the same as the mens.

In the feature race [the roadmans 25] that will be a unisex race. There will be primes and prizes for both the male and female riders, these will be exactly the same , when there's a Prime then the first male gets £60 and the first female gets £60
