We don't know the exact circumstances of what happened.
Whether the experience of the cyclist riding the hire bike is a factor we don't know. We also don't know yet if the painted blue lane of the Cycle Superhighway lulled the cyclist into a false sense of security.

That's pretty inappropriate.

^^ So two things we 'don't know'. Well done BBC. Be great if they could (I don't know - out of some sort of respect) stick to the facts.

He's getting a kicking in the comments, that piece is totally out of order.

In 2012 Jenny Jones from the Green Party on the London Assembly raised concerns about this route, saying: "Traffic on red routes [is] too high for drivers to tolerate cyclists."
What does that mean exactly? That as far as car's are concerned, they deserve the road more than us cyclists?
My heart goes out to this poor girls family - a life just begun to be lived. You lose a child, you never get over it - you just learn to live with the pain.

Jesus. We walked right past her last night. The bike had a buckled wheel and she didn't appear damaged but was being dealt with by paramedics so thought she might be OK.
RIP poor girl. Condolences to her family.

I never thought I get affected by the death of someone I didn't know, but whenever I see the black banner, I start welling up.
Puts everything in perspective, tomorrow I will ride with a weight in my chest, but a smile on my face.Rest in peace, rider.

Cyclists please exercise patience. You don't always have to get to the front.

As well as the poor girl I have been thinking about the girl's family and friends and colleagues whose lives have been shattered today. Such a nice day, such a dark cloud.
And ^ yep, patience. I am sure it would help sometimes. All round.

Aweful. I cycled round the island on the way home Friday afternoon, not my normal route, and was horrified by how vans drive around it. I was thinking at the time I'll be avoiding it in future ... who'd have thought? :( Poor girl
