• Hope she's OK. Truck stopped

  • They were giving her CPR when I cycled past. So sobering.
My thoughts are with her, and her family xx

  • shit

  • Cycled past this about 20 minutes ago. Heart sunk to see the heavy police presence, taped off area, and a driverless lorry. Sunk even further when I saw the bicycle and belongings on the road.

    Fingers crossed.

  • Just saw this on Twitter, fuck

    RIP Lady Rider

  • Cycled past at 23.15. Still cordoned off. Forensic van at the scene. Police at scene just spoke to confirm that it was a Barcley's bike and truck. A very big truck with shipping crate on back. Didn't look good. And BBC confirms my fears. This is very sad. rip.

  • Oh No! Another family ripped apart by tragedy. Our hearts go out to them. Worst possible crash in worst place.

  • Just heard about this on the news. Terrible. RIP.

  • Just seen this on Twitter. RiP lady. :-(

  • A cyclist has died after crashing with a lorry in central London.

The female cyclist was hit on Whitechapel Road at the junction with Commercial Road on Friday evening.

London Ambulance Service was called to the scene and she was taken to a hospital in east London but pronounced dead some time later.

The Met Police said next of kin have not yet been told and that a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene. No arrests have been made.

My condolences to the riders Family and friends.

  • RIP. Was at City of London Cycle meeting earlier this week where they were debating re doing Aldgate one way system - sadly did not seem to be anything on redoing Commercial St / Rd junctions.

  • So terribly sad, thoughts with family and friends. RIP

  • RIP. It makes me angry to see how ineffectual the cycling infrastructure is in this city. There is so much political point-scoring over cycling and so little real action.

IMO The cycling 'superhighways' are a joke... a million tonnes of blue paint accomplishing jack-$hit, except to lull more naive cyclists into a false sense of security.

  • coshgirl's link:

Even Boris Johnson himself has added to the confusion about how blue Superhighways work, when he told Sky News:

"As for my blue bike lanes, they are perfectly … there is no ban on allowing your wheels to stray into them, they are there purely, as you know they are there for indicative purposes."

I wonder what he was going to say.

  • RIP lady rider, and only a week after the last fatality. Tragic.

  • This is properly sad. Very sorry to hear about it. x
