Ordered some parts this morning.
It's all going to be on a budget so nothing majorly exciting.

Will spray or tape the seatpost to get rid of ugly decals.

Most of the parts will be sold by this time next week, by which point I can order the stem, bars and tape and hopefully build it up next Saturday.

I'm going clipless on this too so need to try and find some time to try shoes - I'm looking at Giro Privateers.

Frustratingly the stem is seized in the steerer so couldn't get it out today...
However bit of soaking should do the trick.

However....

Just a heads up, my only run in's with these have been when people have got them stuck, slap on plenty of grease

The decals will probably come off with nail varnish remover or similar.

The stem shifted about 2mm. So there's hope.
Taking it to the workshop on Tuesday and hopefully it'll come out then

something long and pointy (an old quill stem maybe?) and a mallet from underneath?

indeed. in a vice. combined with lots of spraying

Apols. if you've already seen this but two more things you could try:
Pouring boiling water over the whole thing
Homebrew of automatic transmission fluid and acetone
good luck

What about putting it in a chest freezer over night?

Could do the same thing I reckon.
Science says that the alu stem will expand more with heat than the steel frame, so when they both cool down they might unstick themselves.

Maybe the alu would also contract more when put in a freezer, unsticking it?

i dont have a bit ole freezer..
