the far east?? haha, as if.

one of my first goldtec hubs, stripped both lockring threads, was with a shit lockring though and was 2nd hand.

Hmm, not sure what to believe anymore.
There's one actual case, i.e. me above, and a load of heresay/rumour.
Any detail on why BLB are getting lots of returns, spokes pulling loose like above?
Also that rumour from the other thread that Goldtec hubs are now built in the far east! That's bollocks surely?
Completely bollocks.

i'll stick to dura aces i guess !
has anyone got any evidence of da's breaking ? -
• #56
I'm gonna be rolling on Goldtecs very soon, (within a couple of days hopefully, or as soon as the right length spokes get delivered) and if they can tolerate the kinda abuse i'm going to give them, then i'm sure they'll be fine for day to day riding, i'll keep you posted ;)

you need your own sub-forum for talking about your new wheels.

Technically I was discussing the hubs on their own :p, besides superted Rode Goldtecs for ages, and he is back on them again now when his new bike gets sorted, and If they're good enough for him.....

Goldtec use/abuse UPDATE:
Well due to an as yet undiagnosed fault, my lockring stripped clean off the hub last night on the way home from work, 14 are looking at it today, i'll keep you guys posted on what it was, one week of use and not so much of a sniff of any issues and this happens, so we shall see. -

i was talking to andy about how they should upgrade to the higher spec alloy for the new hubs
-
• #62
Selim kills goldtecs. I think it's just cause he's hard.
-
• #63
Reckon I'd go Gran Compe next time I have to buy a fixed hub. Might not be able to replace the Goldtec with one though, because it's a 135 OLD.
Planet x do one don't they?
those hubs are pretty good for the bunce

I'm not exactly gentle on my bike, but ffs a week for this kind of failure is ridiculous, anyway......i'm popping down at lunch time to see what they got to say, dropped my bike in there this morning.

From past experience, cnc'd hubs tend to be worse culprits for snapped flanges (ahem Hope ahem) than those with forged alloy shells, maybe some intrinsic weakening caused by a batch of poorly machined hubs? Just got a new Goldtec thorugh for a build that hadn't been anodised (ie raw silver) and you could see where the machining had missed the pilot hole markings for the spoke holes by up to 1mm on one of the flanges, not overly precise! I think Goldtec's reputation for quality/longevity has partly been gleamed from the use of very high quality, long life Enduro sealed bearings rather than the actual construction.
Dia Compe Gran Compes ftw (although the cheapy bearings are crap in winter), Surly if you need 135mm and don't want to spend loads.

Like I said, reserving judgement until I speak with them in a short while, will update you guys as and when.

seems very bad luck, but then again any hub can fail, i have had a flange pop on a chris king and a hope... rims fail too in the past... it happens however good the manufacturer is, annoying when a lockring strips though, can we assume that it wasn't installed correctly? after a week if a lockring strips threads when it's only been on once i would guess it was put on wonky

yorkiefix, goldtec have had batches of dodgy bearings as well

Just been down to 14, it appears that there is a high probability that this could be the fault of the lock-ring, it is the lock-ring off of my previous hub (BLB lock-ring) so it has not only been put on once, needless to say 14 have provided a like for like replacement wheel, and a profile lock-ring, flawless customer service as per usual :).
Oh I should add that these rims are awesome, they shit all over deep v's for toughness, and they've been getting a thorough testing ;). -
• #70
what rims are you running james?
-
• #71
come back to me in 2 years of abuse and show me a straight rim

Rigida sputnik 48H
come back to me in 2 years of abuse and show me a straight rim
Agreed....but my rear deep v didn't even last 6 months and had to be trued after every 2-3 sessions of hard riding, the rigidas haven't even come close to coming out of true yet and they've been down a few decent size stair sets a couple of wallrides and the usual stuff already for a week or so.

• #73
My rear deep v had 2-3 flat spots, couple of dents, and had folded twice, where I had to hammer it back with a rubber mallet, because it was untrueable (if thats a word?).
