  • BSA30 .. I can sell you one

  • cool. although would my shimano external one work? (pretty sure its fucked anyway so doesnt matter)

  • This PDF says BSA30 should: http://rotorbike.com/media/files/2012/12/rotor_174521655.pdf

    £30 posted? Comes with spanner.

  • sounds good. will contact if i win auction. guess these will have no problem on a hong fu?

  • nope, you'll be fine.

  • BB for Track? Has anyone used Hope?

  • @Bundo the hope bb isn't compatible with the track crankset.

  • Getting round to fitting the Cervelo OE 3D+ cranks to a BB30 frame. Even with the cranks off the frame, I can't get my callipers in to measure up for the spacers.

With only the bearing cover on the DS and the arm pushed up against the frame, the chainline is good and the arms are evenly spaced either side of the chain stays.

I'm measuring a gap of +/-9.5mm on the NDS (can only get a tape measure in there) but there is still slack in the system at this point.

I've found two different manuals which specify either 11.5mm and 0.5mm spacers on both the NDS and DS or 11.5mm and 1mm on the NDS and just 11.5mm on the DS.

Velotech insist I have to have the spider replaced at a cost of £70.

I was going to order an 11.5mm spacer and a pair of 0.5mm unless anyone has a better idea...

PS P2M list the spacer as 11.3mm (Velotech don't sell them individually): I assume this is just a typo, or is this yet another twist?

  • I'm pretty sure the central part of the slightly conical 11.5mm spacer shown on the Rotor 3D+ manual is slightly deeper in the middle than at the edges, which could explain the discrepancy. I'll try measuring one when I get home.

  • That sounds plausible: I've not seen 11.3mm mentioned anywhere else.

  • Well, according to my rather old and careworn digital calipers, the spacer is 11.19mm thick in the middle section and 10.79mm thick at the edges. 11.3mm sounds pretty close.

  • Thanks for checking, but I imagine the pre-load adjuster can cover 0.2mm and I'll have the 0.5mm spacers too.

  • @ekudduke cheers bro - I have learnt this now. Got me some Rotor set up coming soon!!

  • So I have an old HHSRB Ti frame I'm building up which has an Italian BB.

If I'm reading the chart correctly I have 2 options:

    • BB1 ITA + 3D24 cranks
    • ITA 30 + 3D30 cranks

Am I reading this correctly? And any pro/con too choose 30 over 24 or other way around?

  • Yes.

I'd go with 3d24. I've had both. 30mm axle in old frame has no benefits.
Tbh I'd go with groupset cranks if I can as nothing shifts better.

And if you go with 24 you dont have to get Rotor BB, you can even get a shimano one in ITA.

  • thanks, solid info.
not really liking looks of the new 4-arm cranks of either groupset in my head (DA, Ultegra vs Chorus)
as building up old frame will probably going with Ultegra + Rotor combination.

  • Meh.

With just an 11.5mm spacer (no 0.5mm washer and the pre-load adjuster backed right off) I can only torque the crank bolt to 20Nm before the bearings start to bind.

Does anyone have an 8.5mm spacer spare?

    @amey Didn't you have one?

  • I might but I can only find out over the weekend .. will PM you.

  • I think headset spacers just drop straight in if you want to test that theory.

It was either those or off cuts from steerers - can't remember which.

  • Thanks for the tip: I'll give it a whirl!

  • Sounds unlikely to work. Steerers are usually 28.6 mm at the stem, so are unlikely to fit a 30mm axle.

  • Get the sandpaper out :)

Works with Si axles but I guess they are tapered.
