  • If you're lucky they might let you put your bike on the central line for the bit out to the back of beyond (Fairlop is the nearest station). I'm getting a train from kings cross at 7 and don't want to lock my bike up there over the weekend, so I'll be on foot/tube.

I have a basic point-and-shoot camera that I can take a few pictures with, though a decent camera would be much better. I'm sure there will be trailnet people taking pictures, we may be able to use some of theirs.

If anyone is thinking of coming along to this, please let me know. Also, if you could wear a London invitational t-shirt that would be awesome, to help identify us as the refs. If you don't have one then any other bike polo t shirt would be fine.

  • Just do this, tried and tested:

Get 2 or the XXL laundry bags. Remove both wheels, and strap onto frame. Remove handlebar and strap onto headtube or fork. Lower seat. Wrap bike in laundry bags. Make sure nothing is jutting out, remove pedals if needed. Worked for me.

  • Paul, could you drop Geoff an email today and just confirm that you and whoever else is still going? He was a bit worried last night... Cheers buddy.

  • Don't confirm me.

Done, though I'm not too sure how reassuring it will be. I'd really appreciate anyone that could come down for any length of time.

  • Bill?

  • Geoff just emailed me asking whether we had any stopwatches and whistles, I've got to admit I completely forgot about them. Unless whoever has them is around tomorrow morning I doubt I'll be able to get them before the tournament. Hopefully they have some...

  • Why not buy some (if needed and Geoff can't source), they're pretty cheap.

No doubt we'll all vote to re-imburse you at the next LHBPA meeting?

  • Fair enough, where's a good place to get hold of such things? I'll see what Geoff says.

  • Paul, I have stop watches/whistles if you still need them, I'll be at Souths in a bit.

  • Thanks for the offer, but I'm in Leeds atm and only getting back late tonight so I'll probably just buy some in the morning.

  • The tournament was very well run by Trailnet and it was great to see so many young people enjoying the sport.

The games were ball-joint-tastic and the PE teachers are pretty fierce, but other than that everyone was great.

  • Speaking from experience?

  • No he made it up

  • Paul, thank you so much for handling this! The feedback I've had so far from people has been positively glowing. Looking forward to seeing some pictures and finding out how schools polo will develop again from this :)

  • I can only echo Tim's comments, very well run tournament. It was a pity to see the courts being used were astroturf, not tarmac, but the kids seemed to get on alright. Lots of balljoints, loads of goals, a few crashes and grazes and a light spattering of rain towards the end. Unfortunately, I couldn't find my camera so we'll have to wait till the official camera guy gets his pictures out somewhere.

I'll give a more detailed report at the next meeting, but all in all it was a great success. Thanks Tim for coming down, Pete and Brad from Trailnet for helping with the reffing, and Geoff and the rest of the team for organising it all.
