• Too kind. Make good use of them

  • Dropped the tubs off today. New spokes for rear wheel have arrived so just rear wheel build and gluing tubs to go.
Front wheel looks great. 15/17 gauge spokes certainly make the difference.

  • Looking good. I'll keep my eyes on this thread for the final result. It reminds me to get on with my Path Racer build!!!

  • Just in from the Seabass Instagram feed. Better pics to come... One tecalemit grease nipple away from being done. I love it.

  • You're using Instagram with a battery level that low? Do you permanently live on the edge?

  • Absolutely magnificent.

Is it my ancient eyes or does the saddle look slightly more nose up than it should be?

  • I like a nose up saddle like that too, guess it just depends on the rider. Bloody lovely bike that, hope I can find some tubs like that for my Andy Bone.

  • Cheers! Not 100% sure if it's level or not. Not going to be able to get in until the weekend so can make adjustments when I collect.

  • That does look good you must be well pleased with it.
Such tight geometry as well it's a lovely looking bike.

  • Stunning build. The only thing I don't like is the stem - but I've never liked them!

  • Nice work @7ven!

  • Cheers! Picked it up and went for a ride this morning and it rides beautifully!
Anyone know what size nuts I'd need for the rear hub so I can bin the wing nuts?

  • Do the wing nuts thread on smoothly?

Short answer: (probably) Rear: 3/8"x 26 tpi
    long answer:

this source gives some information but is in metric!
    http://pardo.net/bike/pic/fail-024/000.html#harden

there is nothing specified in the Brown Bros listing

  • Just remember it's a proprietary thread for bicycles. It's not 3/8" UNC or UNF and don't try to force on an M9!

  • I hope you don't Actually mean 'bin' the wing nuts....?

  • Pretty sure they're dime a dozen Hurret ones. Not hugely pretty. Wouldn't actually bin them but wouldn't actually have them on any of my final state builds :)

  • Cheers Philip, very helpful and generous with your knowledge as always.

  • Good to know! That's actually the sort of thing I'd do :)

  • I asked a CR member for this detail recently as I am investigating getting a pair of Cyclo (front) wingnuts repaired. The local expert on all things to do with damaged threads was trying to determine the threading. Rather than risk anything I asked Amir and he sent me the extract from Machinery's Screw Thread Book, 19th Ed., 1965. The detail made sense to the expert.

  • In some recent correspondence with classic guru AVT, I was enquiring if he had any other Hobbs bits. He had this which he agreed to sell me. The only known copy of the 1947 Hobbs of Barbican offerings. A fascinating insight into post war England. A good read even if Hobbs' aren't your thing.

  • Wow!!!!!!

  • Superb! Thanks so much for sharing this! I shall be comparing the Raceweight description to my '46 model tomorrow!!

  • 7ven been following your builds for quite a while but felt compelled to join and comment on your last post. Thanks so much for sharing this! I am in the process of building up a 1947 Hobbs Superbe at the moment so the document you posted was perfect for me.

Does anyone know if there is going to be any meeting up of Hobbs owners at Eroica Britannia this year?
