• I have a 1947 24inch Hobbs of Barbican for sale. Unrestored. Including 1947 lamps, two sets of wheels. Everything bar seatpost and seat!! Pictures to follow once I am aloud. www.jurraf.co.uk

  • Number on the bike reads I think....H471200. Original paint

  • Any sensible ideas of a ballpark figure for a unrestored Hobbs of Barbican racer 1947. original paint, lights, frame, forks, two sets of rims, bars, stem, crank, pedals, two sets of brakes. (no seatpost or seat, toeclips, chain?
    Photos to follow

  • Welcome to the forum Jurraf. Depends on condition. Would be very keen to see some photos!

  • Thanks. It appears all the weld are perfect. The crank moves like silk. Some pitting to the chrome on the handlebar stem. Surface rust to the frame. It has been dry stored since '47. I have a 80's Nigel Dean racer and i think the hobbs is lighter! I shall put images of the bike on Tuesday eve.

Any ideas what this is worth as is or once cleaned? .

  • I would be interested in this. PM sent.

  • Just found missing rear brake. Plus another front brake. Found original seat post but no seat. Trouser clips a plenty. Rays uncle was a pro rider. Acquired the Bike for Ray on his 17th .(now 83) Toured Europe on it in 1949.
We are looking for a fair price for a rare bike. Any ideas

  • I'm no expert but in this condition, I probably pay no more than £120.00.
There were 3 Hobbs frames and a large selection of parts that recently went on eBay (In one sale) for somewhere over £300.00.
To maximise the price you get, I'd clean it up and make it into a rideable bike or break it up for parts (which would be a massive shame and not something I condone).
If I didn't already have so many bikes, I'd happily take it off your hands!
    GLWS

  • Do NOT break it. let me have it to restore back to its former glory. So it can last another 66 years and beyond.

  • I've bought another 4 speed trigger to make it a little more period correct foe Eroica Britannia.
It's from 1953-6 according to this list.

  • All my CLs are in bits.
3rd child has made life even more blurred.
The only decent whip one currently has is an early 90s Vitus Argal. But it is period correct and rare as.

  • Sorry 7VEN im going to have to bail out now as well.
    work unfortunately.

  • How did the Cambridge ride go?

Got mine finished enough to ride at Anjou Velo Vintage.

  • Hi Steve,
    Wow, your bike looks great!
How'd you get on at Anjou?

    The Cambridge ride was fun.
4 of us and I managed to average 27 kph on it so was pretty happy with that. Didn't manage any photos.

At Eroica Britannia, I met the V-CC Hobbs Marque Enthusiast Peter Lowry. He recognised my bike from the HOB internet page. I'm officially internet famous now.
The bike is currently hanging in my lounge still covered in white dust from the Peak Districts' off road trails.

  • Anjou was great fun although our average was 4kmph. It was the first time I have had to walk down hill, due to a pinch point, 2700 riders and the first drinks stop at the bottom.

The 2 vineyard stops plus the lunch stop with a bottle of wine slowed us too. But who cares lovely day loverly people and best of all loverly bikes to look at. we also had virtually closed roads to ride on with marshalls and or police at every junction. The cars that we did encounter gave us plenty of room and always let us go first. We passed a gypsy camp and thought we was bound to get some abuse but none of it, they stood at the side of the road clapping and cheering us.

  • Good choice of transport, 7ven ;0)

  • That's Hefty's not mine unfortunately and what a lovely original camper it is!
    Yours looks lovely!
I'm currently in the market for a T25 or T4 as I realistically can only afford them.

    Steve,
Lovely pics. Really would like to do Anjou next year

  • I have a T25 so has my son in law. Daughter still has a couple of Beetles.

  • My Hobbs is no more.

  • Jesus, you OK?
    How'd you manage that?

  • A car pulled out in front of me on Camberwell New road. I was lucky, to be honest i think the bike took the brunt of the crash.

  • Glad to hear you're OK Adam.
Look forward to seeing what you build up next.
Do you think you'll be covered by insurance?
