This is awesome but it's US$350 before shipping, fuck that noise... What a lovely thing... https://defybags.com/collections/bags/products/defender-workcase-black-ballistic-nylon-edition

A friend of mine has a Filson one? Not technical but always thought it looked nice
-

Isn't he carrying an attaché case?
-
• #805
They look okay but they're a bit fashion, aren't they? Not cheap either, I'm more used to seeing their jeans massively reduced at TK Maxx...

I don't know the difference, I'm new to all this...

I like the way they've used beefy buckles and tattooed models to sex up what looks exactly like an accountants Victorinox bag.

Going to give my usual shout out to Tom Bhin bags. Excellent function design. Can choose some colour options.

Briggs and Riley stuff is nice and fairly pricy.

Lifetime warranty etc

Basically, attaché is what you think a brief case is. Brief case is soft.

Ha, news to me I'll tell him when he next tells me how great it is. I haven't been in a TK maxx since I was a teenager trying to fit in with all of the billabong wearing teenagers at school

Shame leather is out of the question. Would have dug out the Hidesign one I have somewhere.
-
• #813
I mean, they're fashionable (or at least were a couple of years back with all the authentic heritage movement), but they're solidly made from quality materials, and look great when old and beat up. And yes, not cheap.

It was the least ‘leather briefcase’ leather briefcase I could find some years ago. Pretty sure I still have the shoulder strap in the wardrobe too.

(I've recently been re-watching Michael Palin's Round the World in 80 days, and have developed a severe crush on his shoulder bag. It's a Brady Gelderburn, a classic fishing bag that was adopted by photojournos and foreign correspondents as a gear bag until custom camera bags came along, and is made a couple of miles down the road from me. I'd be sorely tempted, except they're nearly £400 - when things open up again I might have to see if they do factory seconds...)

Brady Gelderburn
Billingham wankstain bags
-
• #817
I think Billingham was started by one of Brady's cutters who saw a market for specialist camera bags; can't speak to the 'wankstain' bit?

I found that the Billingham-bag-wearing crowd was the same elitist asshole group that frowned upon anyone who didn’t have the correct super rare lens hood for the latest generation of most expensive lens on the newest rarest model of Leica M.
I’m overgeneralising of course. One of my dearest oldboy friends carries his cameras in a Billingham, but he clearly owned it from before they were cool.
Whenever (pre-hipster) I saw a Billingham on the street it was clearly a Leica snob, and more often than not they proved the assumption when talking to.
One of the nicer of these guys was actually targeted, attacked, and mugged for his M’s that were in the bag. The thieves spotted it a mile off (literally).

Ah, gotcha; yes, like many other items they seem to have gone from 'rugged gear beloved by pros' to 'expensive marker for all the gear and no idea'. I still want a Gelderburn, mind.

I've thrown myself down a tactical military briefcase rabbit hole, who knew that existed?!? 🤪

If your briefcase doesn't have a pocket for ballistic armour plates, do u even urban jungle bro!?
(A barrister mate does have a 5.11 briefcase, possibly because it reminds him of his days as a Squadron Leader in hot sandy locales, but I don't know if he takes it to court...)
