  • Hmm ok so 700s are still an option, gives me much more choice as well....

The actual chainring is bent iirc but i will double check

Some cheap fixed wheels and crankset is what I'm on the lookout for now.

I should hopfully have the frame sanded and primed tomorrow, so more updates to follow.

  • I think you said earlier on that the crank bolt threads on your current bottom bracket are fucked. It might be easier to buy a new sealed one with the same length and type of axle rather than trying to replace only the axle. A sealed BB is much better for low-maintenance riding too. The word according to Tester would suggest a Shimano BBUN-55 as the optimum cost/functionality tradeoff.

  • Got a new axle today and new bearings i did look at getting a sealed unit but decided to just keep it as is and freshen it up with new bearings, also got new bearings for the forks and both wheels.

Being an old raleigh you've likely done the right thing, as unless its a 501 or 531 frame it's more likely to be raleigh specific threading in the bottom bracket.

  • Is there ant way I can find out actually how old it is?? Or what model it even is ??

  • Is there a number on the BB shell?

  • Not sure, will have to have a look tomorrow, I don't remember seeing any thing stamped on the frame what so ever though :/

  • Well most will have a number, if not I wouldn't know anything about determining an age, I'm sure 'tester would know though.

  • 'Tester ???? What/who's that?

  • mdcc_tester. In the nicest possible way he's kind of a big deal around here.

  • Is it me or is that T3 throbbing up and down in the above pic?

  • Yeah that's what it does :P

  • I'd seen the erecting stem one but not that...

  • I'm planning on doing a similar thing to this over the summer when I've finished my exams, so I'm going to spending allot time on this thread stealing ideas instead of revising, I hope you don't mind?

  • Lol I don't mind I will try to post as much info as possible, and as many pics and guides to show how I do stuff along the way. They may be right they maybe wrong but hopefully I will learn some new stuff and other can learn from it as well.

Iv already learnt loaaaads since joining the site !!

  • So I'm just sanding down the frame and iv discovered a number - 321775- mean anything ???

  • I'm not an expert on serial numbers but I'm sure someone could say.
