ok, so I just take the dents and little punctures as "character" ?
Do the small one even out a bit because it is applied as a powder
or does it behave like paint where the capilar effect keeps unevenness
visibal.I could sent a few close ups... to see what you think.....

I'm still a noob when it comes to all this stuff man, but from what I understand powdercoat gets baked in an oven to set it properly, so most fillers can't withstand the 400 degrees +, also there seems to also be some problems becuase filler doesn't conduct electricity so its harder for powder coat to stick to it. If you really want to fill and powdercoat I think you can get some fillers with metallic properties that can withstand high heats but I found it difficult to find one...
It might be easier if you just used a quality filler and get your frame sprayed with enamel...

I don't want to start this list unless people think it's worthwhile, but having just been quoted £90 for a basic powdercoat, I'm tempted to start a 'definitive' powdercoating list, with powdercoaters, service provided - e.g. strip (and how - chemical, stove, shot-blast etc), powdercoat, lacquer, contact details, website, quality of finish and rough idea of price.
'Use the f-ing search' isn't getting me far in terms of prices and the quality of finish, but I'll leave it up to you guys to decide if it's worthwhile.

No. If it's a list you have to consult GD2G first.

Did you ever do this - my UTFS hasn't helped either. Armourtex seem well regarded and competitive, but some folk on another forum reckon they've had theirs done for £35.00. I'm wondering if that's just market forces, or a shit job?

as far as armourtex goes, can i give em a frame as is? or would it be wise to sand it down first?
-
• #34
they did one for me recently - i stripped everything off it (bb/headset etc) and they sanded/blasted it to prep, masked off everything that needed masking and did a lovely powdercoat and clearcoat for £69 - that was an alu frame, i think steel might be a bit cheaper for some reason???

wicked! ive already taken the headset out no BB yet. i was really just inquiring about the sandblasting of paint

I recently sprayed my frame with hammerite stonechip it comes out awsome its only like 5quid for a massive can but this all depends if you want your frame matt black or white

afternoon all,
moving back to london with a few frames I need restoring, namely a merckx/colnago and a newly purchased tommasini.
who is the best in london to repaint them up and get back to life?
thanks

Ok, seeing as there doesn't seem to be any good london-based respray options, how about outside of london?

I go for the spray route, although it does chip so you need to be careful. I recommend Colourtech in Crayford in Kent on the way to Dartford. They are inexpensive and provide a magic finish. They just completed a frame of mine a week ago and I have had seven enquiries where I got it done already. Their no. is 01322555549 and ask for Dave Crowe.
also look for argos

It all depends on how much money you want to spend.

My local car sprayer will be doing my frame when its ready for paint.
It will be done in "two pack paint". Over the years he has done various car panels for me and I just asked if he would do a bike frame.
This could be a way for you to get a really good paint job done but remember you will have to get the frame cleaned up (blasted to remove all old paint and corrosion if any) Before a sprayer will take the job on. Have an ask around in what ever area you live. -

Valuable info all, thanks. Looks like I have a few choices for when i land, so thanks ;)

That Armourtex place looks pretty decent, might have a spin round there with my next resto. :)

if money is not an option then try these guys. they pick up and deliver the frame to your door.

there's a good place in Hackney for powder coating bikes if that's what you need doing. Let me know and I'll dig out their details

Armortex is a ok if you want a frame powder-coated but be warned they look a bit crappy.
Colour-Tech is about twice as much but do jobs that look like this:

I know this thread is old, but I wanted to know if Colour-Tech is still in business. I purchased a Cliff Shrubb frame and would like to get an email to David Crowe (I am in the states). I understand that he painted the frame originally and I would like to know if he can identify the color that he used aside from it being red.
Thanks

I've got a few frames now that need a fresh lick..
One that really deserves the full £160 argos treatment, which I can't afford.. So Im wondering if anyone knows a decent place/ person to repaint in London...
Also a few frames that need fresh powder.. £75 is a fair price and armourtex do a grand job but I want a more cost effective way of doing it. I've heard of people outside of London (?) wh get their frames done for £40.. Anyone got any tips..
Cheers,
Matt
Hmmm.. if you're going to get it powder coated breglis, you can't powder coat over body filler... or any of those kind of epoxy's I believe (i've been researching A LOT)
