  • There is a month to go now, so here is all the important information:

    Timing:

Friday: 17:00-20:30 pickup at the court.
20:30-??? Party at the Full Moon

    Saturday 9:00-16:00 Round Robin
17:00-??? Party at the Full Moon

    Sunday 9:00-16:00 Round Robin
    16:00-17:00 Semi Finals
    17:00-18:00 Finals
    18:00-21:00 Pickup

    Accommodation:

There will be very limited private accommodation in Bristol, so you'll have to sort out your own housing.

**The parties will be the Full Moon, and it will be the easiest place to get a room, it's very close to the court.

    http://www.fmbristol.co.uk/full-moon-backpackers-hostel.html

Rooms start at £17:50 per person, and you can get 2/3/4/6/8/10 person rooms. Get together and sort out a room between you.**

    Also quite close is http://www.bristolbackpackers.co.uk/
    A little further away: http://www.thebase.vg/

**If you want to camp, this is close by:

Call Peter Chapman - 07774486648 to book**

Otherwise, if you have a car you can always look further outside Bristol, for camping options, or wild camping.

    For hotels, look at:

    Travel information:

    Flying:
    Bristol Airport
    http://www.bristolairport.co.uk/flights-from-bristol.aspx
Birmingham, Cardiff and London Airports are also just a few hours away on the train (you'll need bike reservations). Come to London early, and play pickup with us.

    Car:
Across the channel, either through the Channel Tunnel (35 mins), or on a ferry, from France, Netherlands, Belgium or Spain. Calais to Dover is the shortest crossing (1 hour), and has easy access to London, and then the M4 motorway to Bristol (3-4 hours to Bristol from Dover, 2 hours from London).
Portsmouth (Caen, Cherbourg, Le Havre, St Malo, Bilbao, Santander) is closest to Bristol (2 hours drive), but the ferries take longer.
Dieppe to Newhaven is also an option, it's 3 hours to Bristol.

Train: Take the Eurostar from Paris or Brussels to London St. Pancras, then the Circle Line Underground to Paddington, then a train from there to Bristol. You will need bike reservations on Eurostar, and on the train to Bristol.

    Payment:

There is a £15 charge per player. This covers the court hire. If you can pay via paypal to eurobench2013@gmail.com as soon as possible that would be very appreciated, as I have to pay for the court beforehand, otherwise cash on the day is also ok. Please make sure you include your name when you make the payment, so I know who it is.

    Finally:
The court is an alcohol free location, and the sports centre will be very strict on that. If anyone gets caught, we may get thrown out, so please bare that in mind.

  • The Full Moon is Full Up (some female dorm beds available).

The Rock and Bowl have some spaces mind: http://www.rocknbowlmotel.com/

  • thanks Jono

  • Hey, Quentin was asking me if the campsite has cabins? I don't think so, right?

  • What's the name of that campsite?

  • st werburghs?

I'm not sure if it's an official thing, or just some dude with a load of space.

  • Yeah, it's got a few little 2 man cabin things for £30 a night, you might be able to convince him to let you squeeze more in. Antonio had one last time.

  • It's a bit of an odd place, mainly some guy with some space but he wants to turn it into a kinda cyclists retreat thing, the guy is also wonderfully crazy and really nice, I loved the place.

  • Is there still places available for this?? only just seen it.....

  • ok so read backwards through the thread as you do..... nevermind!

  • Come camping with us anyway, Chris is coming.

  • Hi, does anyone know if there is still space on the campsite? How much is it per night with a small tent? I couldn't find a link and calling to england is quite expensive so I hope someone can help me..
Or is there a local in Bristol who could hook a small shadowman up with a couch or a small strech of loan for my tent?
I am so looking forward to that weekend.. cheers

  • What's the deal with subs for this John?

  • Any replacements need to be done before the tournament starts.

If the sub is on original list, no problem. If they aren't, then the captains need to approve (as they did with Chris)

  • I didn't want to approve. Chris is a massive upgrade IMO. But it'll be good to see him playing amongst that team. Go GREEN!

  • hey Philip the price for tend is 10 pound I guess ..but i book a caravan for two or 3 people and you welcome to stay and will be 10 pound too and you dont need to carry a tend

  • Antonio can i get in on your caravan?

  • So we (2 antwerp guys and me) booked a 4 person hotel room, so 1 spot available. Snoring not allowed. Contact me for further details.

  • Cheers John,

Is there a list for subs. Or is it just up to captains to pick someone then have it approved if necessary?

Also have you heard anything from Vince about Podium bench stats?

  • Would any of the non-playing polo players travelling to this tournament be willing to be part of a four-person reefing team?

We would like to have four named referees to take on this task. There will be two courts in use so a four-person team would enable referees to take breaks. Referees will need to ref games in full.

The refereeing team would need to brief all captains on the morning of the first day of the ruleset and highlight particular items that are being enforced, then debrief at the end of the day to discuss the play that they saw (this will also be an opportunity for captains to gain insight on why calls were made). And then again, a brief before the last days play and the final.

The referees must be confident in their knowledge of the game and able to ref objectively to the ruleset we are using. Anyone willing to be a part of this team will be loved and adored by all who attend. We will try and accommodate refs into cars travelling from London to Bristol on the Friday evening and the refs team will get goody bags full of polo swag!

Email eurobench2013@gmail.com if you would like to be involved. Thanks

The subs list = the leftover entry list.

  • Mmmmmmmmmmmm, leftovers...

Six would be better, it's tough reffing long games as it is, I think doing half the day might be asking a bit much?

  • We're aiming for as few as possible to ensure consistency. Four is just about right, if six or more volunteer then we could talk to them and reconsider. Ultimately it's up to John, I'm just helping out on this as he's got lots on.

shouldn't the replacement players be picked from the original list instead of adding new players? It seems unfair on people who signed up and didnt get picked (like me)
