I think it will be very cool if it develops a proper verdigris finish:
Not so much if it just looks like that which you might find under the bath:

If you ride it in the rain for > 20 years it will develop that nice verdigris, right?
-
• #29
Acid rain would probably speed the process up, that or rubbing it down with vinegar.

cover it in plain yoghurt

Just pee on it.
Yup, this.
I used to build guitar pedals, and put copper plates on the top with the control legend / pedal name stamped on them. People used to ask how I got a beautiful verdigris on those copper plates.
I'd just say "Well, I stamped them, threw them in a bucket, then pissed in the bucket and left it for 24 hours."
So I've heard, roofers who work with copper do the same thing after completion. -

I thought it would be cool to paint a car with copper paint, that is a lot of peeing.

Warhol did a whole series of paintings by pissing on copper.

does that make him a piss artist?
(warhol that i mean) -

I finally managed to find the time to drive down to the platers and pick up the frame. Luckily the result of the plating is everything I hoped it would be.
The copper plating revealed two things: 1. a dent in the top tube , 2. build quality second to none.

Fucking hell. That's bright-just make sure and don't go riding in a thunder storm.
Are you going to lacquer it or let it tarnish?
-
• #41
I haven't decided whether or not I will clear coat the frame. By clear coating the copper it will probably loose some of its shine. It will also be quite difficult to make the clear coat stick to bare metal. Obviously it will retain the copper color longer with a clear coat.

How much heavier is it now?

Very nice. Time to take out shares in Brasso?

It looks amazing, the platers did a stunning job, I wouldn't want it myself but that doesn't detract in any way, I'm probably just wrong!

Out of interest, how do things grip on copper. Will you have to tighten up your track nuts/QRs, stem bolt, headset lockring etc. really tight?
-
• #46
It's both beautiful and hideous at the same time. Well done.
-
• #47
Wow! Build-wise, this could go either way...
Sub'd!

My scrotum contracts and my vision blurrs when I see sexy frames like this plonked on any old hard surface, for the photo.
Rest it on an oily cloth or a bit of old carpet. Anything. Looks lovely though.

Copper is actually quite soft, so grip should be not problem what so ever.

The weight remained pretty much the same: the frame now weighs 1692g, the fork 677g and the stem 341g.
That paint job is too cool to cover in copper.
