I'm also thinking for sheer brutal effort we should enter the tour-de-trigs walking competition 50mile orienteering hike around Banbury next December, like we need a team bonding session..

This is definitly beyond my abilities at the moment. But I can try and adjust my usual training regime to focus on endurance. Life as father of 2 small kids tends to lend itself more to grabbing an hours intense workout when possible. As apposed to long endurace stuff. But it should be doable.
The main issue is team prep. I'm inexperianced in group riding, and on the wrong of the north alantic.
I'm keen to commit to this though.

I vowed, that I would never do this again, my body hasn't forgiven me yet. But I'd be there for esstee who missed out due to illness and there is a lot more to Norway than cycling. SF just put a few century rides in over the next 12 months, join a club

Just sayin'.

Have the odd 120km fixed ride planned, and some brutal road rides planned, for this summer already. Just need to ween myself off the rugby. It uses up my free weekends, makes me heavy, and breaks stuff.
-
• #108
i play touch rugby in the summer, good cardio workout for free each week, whilst chasing girls around the park.. just can't do hard contact anymore, body is too fragile..

I play hooker. So need a little padding. Might actually be playing for Trondheim this year.

hope you guys don't mind, but i have a promise to keep in Trondheim for a pal, and visit the grave of Private Peter Hugh Joseph Keast of 03 Commando/Devonshire Regiment,
KIA 27th December 1941, grave is at the Commonwealth Cemetery in Stavne about 2 clicks from the town centre. he was 25 years old and buried with honours. It'll give us a chance to check bikes over once out of their boxes/transit on Friday..
*In December there were two raids in Norway, the first on 26 December was Operation Anklet* a raid on the *Lofoten Islands by No, 12 Commando. The raid was to provide a diversion for the larger raid at Vågsøy* Island, *Operation Archery. The German garrison, amid Christmas* celebrations, was easily overcome and the Commandos re-embarked after two days. The second raid on 27 December, Operation Archery, involved men from Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 6 Commandos, a *flotilla from the *Royal Navy, and limited air support. The raid caused significant damage to factories, warehouses, the German garrison, and also sank eight ships. The raid prompted the Germans to reinforce the garrison occupying Norway by an extra 30,000 troops, upgrade coastal and inland defences, and send a number of capital ships to the area.

Still in.
I'm already preparing in a lose way TBH. The current weather is working against me though. Hope to do a 150km over the weekend. Not far admittedly. But means a decent stint in the saddle.
My eldest wants me to take the longbike, so he can come along. I told him politely that that might be a bit tough.

28th June.
Nearly 3 weeks after Nibberittet. Which is good news.

Really want to get signed up. So I can start having nightmares.

Might have to get involved. Are you going any of the birkebeiner...?

I'd like to. I was thinking of doing it on the singlespeed 29er. I'll lose a load of time on the flats and tarmac. But its definitely doable I reckon. The simplicity of the bike would be a godsend too.
But the logistics are a bit tricky. Really need to convince some of the guys I ride with to have a bash at trail riding. So I can get a group together.

FWIW I've quit my protein shake habit, and dropped 6kg with this in mind. I'm still no distance cyclist. But I'm working on it.

I'm sure kristian might have felt like that 12 months ago

I'm pretty excited about preparing, and completing styrkeprøve.
I'm not eating any fecking sea insects though. To me its like sitting around peeling grass hoppers, and dipping them in mayo.

FYI Early bird registration ends 26th Oct.. but there are a further 3 levels of cheapness
I booked a ticket for the Birke...skiing march 15th but realised it clashed with the Revolution tickets I have so I'm trying to convert it to the 174km Birke road race the week before Styrkeproven and spend the week in norway.
Right, I am going to regret this, but what the hell.
If you cannot persuade a "certain" Australian to join you, I will add on the kilos with a strict diet of vegimite and tinnies of Castlemaine, and join you next year.
Have we some dates for the diary, including a few days of acclimatisation?
