  • Only those who are aware of it's power. etc. etc.

In other news, my stomach rebelled against me yesterday. A perfect storm of overnight riding, eating all the food, psoriasis medication, 2 beers, little sleep.

    DunRuns indeed.

  • 2 beers.

    Doing it wrong

  • Anybody else get snapped by the photographer standing in the middle of the road in one of the villages closeish to the end? Think he may have had a big grey beard and long hair but maybe I was seeing what I wanted to see (wizards). Would love to get hold of the picture. LONG shot.

  • Near the deceptive "Dunwich (refreshments) 1km" sign on the corner? He was noodling around with a wide lens and flash then went walking off East down the road shooting as he went.

vv that's the guy. my rear in the sign photo.

  • This one?

This ride does seem to be pretty bad for hallucinations

Or good, depending on how you look at it

  • Amazing! I've sent a message and will report back if there's a happy ending.
    Thanks!

The change in tone from 30 to 31 in that set is hilarious...

    my DD flickr set

Nice set Fasih, you seemed to have stalked me and my 3 mates without knowing for almost 18 hours at the beginning and the end (me in the Milltag DD top & yellow lid, mate in a Sky top and another with a green and orange crumpler).

My first DD, epic experience. About 7hrs 45mins in the saddle and somehow 4 hours of stoppages?! My personal highlight that I haven't read anyone else mention yet was the curt but polite "Good Morning and Good Luck" in the drizzle at about 5:30am near Coddenham (maybe) from a large older gent in his front garden wearing a faux maroon velvet dressing gown, mug of tea in one hand, stroking his cat on his shoulder with the other.......surreal Blowfeld/Hitchcock moment........

The low point was definitely the 3:50am puncture for my buddy who was pretty swift at initially changing the tube and then:

"Uh, this pump doesnt seem to work"
    "Try mine"
"yeh, this doesnt seem to work either........?!?!?....."
"Mate, perhaps that tube around your neck..."
    "Yeh"
"...the one that looks nice and new and has talc on it and a shiny valve....."
    "Yeh"
"...maybe, just maybe, thats the one you should have put in, not the one you just took out that had a massive nail in it.........."
    "ah...............yeh........."

Couldn't hate him though, poor sod lost his wallet between the Axe and Compasses and the Weston Cafe in Sudbury, but in true DD style he just got an email this morning from a rider who found it!

Wish I had spoken to more of the many forum capped people I saw, a mixture of fear, tiredness and general lack of good chat put me off. Only person I managed a quick chat with was dglshrn, spotted purely for his wonderous Indurain jersey as seen on p14 of this thread - even more amazing in the flesh - massive rep'.

Big respect to all those who did it fixed -your all fuggin nuts and missing out on some epic downhill bombing - into Sudbury especially.

See you all again next year (or before?) I'll leave you with a link to my favourite photo I've found so far (is bellyendiott on here?) - sums up everything about the coach back perfectly.

When I saw that guy I did the biggest maniac grin ever, I must have looked like some kind of psychopath. He didn't have tea when i saw him, but he was pointing the riders out to his cat, who looked nonplussed. What a dude.

Pretty sure he was more of a psychopath being up that early on a sunday with an evil cat on his shoulder, lives in the middle of bumfugg, perhaps looking for a weakened rider for his next meal............oh the things that went through my mind that morning!

  • That photo set is very interesting. Everyone looks very bogged down by rucksacks and things. I cannot imagine having a rucksack on for 120 miles. Stuff that shit.

  • sweaty sweaty sweaty back problems
    do not want

  • panniers ftw!
that's where you were going with this, right?

  • I just love my camelbak too much to ride bareback in the summer.

  • Been thinking about doing this ride for so long and now I've done it (and loved it).

What now? What's the next big ride to look forward to C2C, Lejog, popping to the offy and back?

  • Yeah, I saw that. I'm going to be touring in Holland when thats on though. Maybe next year...

If you're taking lots then yes of course, but I just think people overpack for this.

Theo did it with just a saddle bag and was fine. I had a tiny top tube bag and I was absolutely fine also. What are people taking with them!?

  • my first two dunwiches I just stuffed jersey pockets, nothing more. quite hard when you want to take a tent though :/
