I did wonder when Genesis released their current year model range why they went from having an all black Croix De Fer that looked the business to a load of different colours and no black option. Last years black Croix De Fer was probably the best selling bike in the shop - I remember about this time last year there being over 10 of them lined up at the back of the shop waiting for cyclescheme voucher exchanges. Brilliant price point and perfect do-everything bike!

What are those bars? Exactly what I've been looking for.

Salsa alloy bend 2.
On one fleegle are similar and less pricey

Picking mine up tomorrow, full blown new bike excitement!

Rather than start my own thread, I'll continue ruining yours. My pal Jim is working on some new decals as I'm not blown away by the genesis ones. Here's mk 1

I might be starting a new commute soon, this grows kind of setup more tempting:
Especially in light of my recent injury.

I'd need new bars, a rear xtr m975 and shifters and cables hmm.

Super rad.
What are those bars?
-
• #760
Salsa Bend 2 I guess
edit; maybe Soma Clarence

I concur

Could get some of those on one fleegles? Look similar... Rather than xtr rear mech just get SRAM rapid fires?
Oh, you're going full hipster with the 1x...
-
• #763
No no I'm talking brakes. I've got a front one, so I'd want a matching rear. I was looking at the Mary and feegles, sjs has loads of similar shapes too. I will be keeping both my front chainrings...

Ah I got ya, Shimano part number fail.
2x10 shifters should be easy enough to come across , that was the blast big trend before 1x...

CNC bikes have some really good prices for shifters/mechs, i was thinking of going 1x9 for my commuter, but 2x9 seems to be a really good budget option with a compact shimano chainset and mtb shifters/mechs.

Id probably use thumbies as its a bit easier to setup than triggers, the feegles do look good.

New job now confirmed, so I've definitely got a new 40 minute commute, up from current one of 2 minutes. This is exactly what I'm aiming for with my sick commuter upgrade :
Except that I looked into it and thumb shifters will be too expensive, I'd have get the pauls components adaptor (which means giving money to BLB) and then the sram bar ends shifters.
Which makes this setup.
where as I can get the SRAM X9 trigger shifters on trade for cheap.
I managed to get some xtr m975 on ebay for the low low price of £69 because the seller decided to end the listing at 05:30 for some reason.
I think I might also get one of these too, it'll tidy up my spacer stack :
I just need pick bars and how much sweep I want current options:
I'd imagine more sweep will effect the handling.
Either way I will be getting some of these:
Then later on down the line I'll build some 650b 11 spd dynamo wheels so I can run 42c. Which will mean I can upgrade to rival hydro if I want to go back to drops.

Lovely reference material, Winter have put out some really really beautiful bikes.
New build looks great, and very comfy. Is 40 mins longer or shorter than your current? Congrats on the new job too!

Thanks, my current commute is 2 minutes as I work 250m from my house, new job is in Kensington so I'll be riding which I'm looking forward to.

why not the SJS thumbie mounts? cheaper than Paul...

I'll be curious to see what bars you go for. I'm always half on the look out for low rise with a decent amount of sweep, but not north road / cruiser esq ones. I reckon it will be a nice set up for the summer as well.
Re the shifters; as cool and retro as thumbies / hybrid-conversion thumbies look (in a Prolly / Rivindale way), trigger shifters are just way better. Once you factor the totally ridiculous price it's a no brainer.
And before anyone says anything about reliability - you're commuting not crossing the Gobi Desert and mtbs seem to manage fine with triggers ;)

Shimano only. Sram mounts are different apparently.

I think bar three is my winning option so far.
The main reason I like thumbies is because it's just one lever to shift with. I had them on my rat bike, they're good. But you're right about the price, it's not worth it.

I've gone back to these bars after trying drops for the winter. So much more fun and much comfort. I initially wanted to go with the Jones H-bars but the price was insane.
Look into the Ergotec brand on Rose bikes, they've got a few bars like you posted.Really looking forward to this. That Surly you posted sealed the deal for me.
It won't be, just the amount of lever throw may throw some people off.
