  • Looking very nice - are those the back classic/20l ortliebs that you've managed to fit to that pizza rack? Any problems with the hook getting knocked off at all?

  • Yes it is, and I did, so I semi fixed it by flipping the rail over so from this:

    to this:

It means the rail sits further down from the tip of the hook. If that turns out to be not secure enough I'll get a second hook like the Gravel panniers use:

  • hmu with a gpx if you get a nice touring route pls!

  • Well that's a bit clever. I think you've sold me on the pizza rack.

  • I ended up putting a bungee cord round them for off road but if you're not going on anything that's too bumpy just order the extra hook

  • Snap! Same thing I did but with the smaller ones.
You also might wanna look into replacing the whole bolt mechanism with some M bolts, spacers and nylock nuts. Ortlieb's don't have the best bolting system. They'll vibrate the fuck off and snap on washboard terrain.

  • I did wonder if the smaller hooks were stiffer, is that the case? I've never had a problem with the bolts but I'll keep an eye on them

  • 200km of gravel: DONE was a good test, I very much like this bike.

Sadly the Dynamo lights have stopped working...

  • Maybe you finally turned them off

  • Bike looks spot on!! Are they blackburn chicane cages?

  • Thanks, they are yes

  • Fuck this shitty Pizza rack, tried to mount the light to the inside, stupid shit bolts head snapped off.

    made this

kept slipping so I went to swap the bolt and add some washers to grip better, barely any torque and the bloody hole threaded. Fucking shitty shit. Need to make another thing not to fix this, p-clip doesnt fucking work. im in a bad mood about this.

  • Fuck, that's annoying!

What about drilling all the way through the rack strut and using a nylock nut on the other side?

  • Yes that's not a bad idea actually I may do that this afternoon.

I also think I'll ask @Hulsroy to modify my surly rack

  • Bolts that go all the way through and nylock bolts are your friend. Or you could try adding spring washers.

  • @spotter whats the tyre clearance on this in 700c? Can 35/38mm Hypers AND guards go?

  • 35mm 700c? What is this, 2014 C2W?

  • leave me alone! I need a QR bike to use on kickr.

  • 35c Hypers, yes.

    38c might be tight

  • Do you need mudguards and 38mm on the turbo? 😉

Not better to buy a POS roadie that lives on the turbo forever?

  • on this gen its 700x32c max with mudguards. newer models are more

  • So so good.

This got me hackering for a Bombtrack Audax.

  • I'm currently thinking I'd actually like something with a bigger HT like a Vaya

  • Check the new Bombtrack Beyond, look pretty impressive, even got tapered fork, and carbon option.

  • I've been thinking this also then I think for the amount of time I spend on the bike why not go custom. Then I look at my bank account and warm to the CdF.
