  • never had problems with charge hubs, halo cogs/lockrings or sugino messenger cranks

Quite a few people did and it was because a batch or two of each were made with sub standard metals.

Indeed it was, I'm sorry but all I can see is a possible installation error by the sound of it.

So part failures caused by other things don't exist in your world?

  • and believe me, my legs are more hench than yours.

That Fiat 500 has a heavy clutch...

  • So part failures caused by other things don't exist in your world?

Part failures does happen, but they're rare and the majority of failure I've seen in my shop were of installation error.

  • What's the exact installation error that would have caused the problem?

  • If you like you can examine it, the lockring threads are fine, it's just the ones that were on the hubs that have balded off.

  • What's the exact installation error that would have caused the problem?

Not tightening enough can mean when the cog slips it hits against the lockring with enough force to ride it off.

Had that been the case it probably would have happened far closer to the shop than the 3 miles away that it did.

  • That Fiat 500 has a heavy clutch...

the fiat clutch is fine. the bmw clutch is the problem one

  • Or tightened it too much even.

  • my guess is too much

  • the fiat clutch is fine. the bmw clutch is the problem one

    Insert first world problem meme

  • Or tightened it too much even.

    my guess is too much

If over tightened what would be more likely to go, the ring or the hub threads?

  • Indra commented on how he thought it was possibly undertightened. So I whacked it up a bit more. Tbf.

  • :O I never.
I amused if you were sure of tightened it because I didn't see you do it, you then said 'maybe not enough' and went off to give some more.

  • If over tightened what would be more likely to go, the ring or the hub threads?

    hub threads always.

the hubs is alu, the lockring/cog are steel, you can do the math.

    ?

  • To be fair, no stripped hubs on your Brother Jake.

  • How it sits currently.

Nice looking bike Indra. Quite a saddle - bar drop though!

  • It's ok, he's ridden it 6 miles!

  • Oh, that's ok then six miles... six hours... what's the difference :-)

Don't leave it next to the radiator for too long. The heat will cause the carbon to de-laminate.

  • Or the tyres to exploded if you've just got back on a very cold day.

  • Or the tyres to exploded if you've just got back on a very cold day.

That's most likely just tyre installation error Ed ;-)

  • So much rep.

  • Hah, it was something like -3 when I was riding home, went into the warm house, prop the bike next to the radiator, both tyres blew up.

It's more that I have a stupidly high pressure on the tyres 2 years ago due to listening to people ON HERE that higher = better (100 front, 120 rear).
